Board of Directors - Chair (Volunteer)
Come lead our Board of Directors and help our “Good Dogs Doing Great Work!”
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate volunteer to Chair Ottawa Therapy Dogs’ Board of Directors.
Ottawa Therapy Dogs (OTD) is a charitable organization that strives to create a healthier community - one therapy dog visit at a time. Through our canine-assisted interventions, our volunteer handlers work with their own dogs by visiting our pre-approved facilities to provide comfort and care to those who need it most.
The Chair oversees our dedicated volunteer Board of Directors, which is responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations while maintaining our commitment to the organization’s mission. The Chair works with the Board to establish our strategic direction, maintain our compliance with applicable legal requirements, and keep our organization financially healthy. The Chair may also take an active role in committees, including Strategic Planning, Member Outreach, and Fundraising.
Candidates for the Chair position should have Board or volunteer experience with charitable organizations and good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience in strategic planning, fundraising, or organizational and people management would be an asset.

- Financial Development: Drive sustainable revenue growth by leveraging personal networks, cultivating high-value donor relationships, and assisting in the development of fundraising initiatives.

- Board Development: Lead the search for new Board members and plan for leadership transitions.
- Organizational Representative: Act as the primary spokesperson and advocate for the organization at public events and external meetings.
- Administration & Oversight: Sign official documents and work with the Board to adhere to non-profit regulations and OTD bylaws. You oversee the performance of our two key roles (one full-time staff member and one consultant) and ensure a smooth, collaborative relationship between the Board and the team.
- Membership: Become a Member of OTD ($30 annual fee).
