Carty House is a registered charity that provides transitional housing and support to refugee women in Ottawa. Carty House offers safety, accommodation and support to its residents as they move through the refugee system and build the resources necessary to live integrated and independent lives in Canadian society.
We are currently recruiting for the Chair position on our Board of Directors. We are seeking a passionate and committed individual to serve as a board member who will contribute to realizing the organization’s vision and strategic objectives, guide its long-term development and financial sustainability, and provide leadership.

Board member (Chair) responsibilities:
-Time commitment: Available to attend monthly board meetings (currently held every 4th Tuesday from 6 pm to 8 pm EST, virtual format for now, and able to commit at least 10 hours per month to the board.
-Leadership and governance: Lead the board of directors, ensuring effective governance and strategic decision-making, and the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
-Financial oversight: Work closely with the Executive Director and Finance Committee to ensure the financial health of the organization.
-Meeting facilitation: Preside over board meetings and the annual general meeting.
-Management support: Assist the Executive Director providing advice and counsel as required.
-Skills: Interest in supporting newcomers/refugees; willingness to participate in Carty House activities and events; openness to learning; and ability to work effectively, professionally and collaboratively.
