Board of Directors issues Call for Nominations: Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee
ADAPT (Halton Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Assessment, Prevention and Treatment Services) is looking for committed, enthusiastic members to serve on its Board of Directors. Do you possess leadership skills and knowledge to share with a dynamic and diverse team of professionals to help realize the mission of ADAPT Halton?
ADAPT is governed by a volunteer board of directors in a policy governance model. Day-to-day operations are delegated to the CEO. The Board sets direction via the mission, vision, values, strategic plan, governance policies and budget. Their key role is to direct and protect.
The Board’s Nominating Committee has issued the official Call for Nominations.

ADAPT is a non-profit, community-based, outpatient addiction, assessment and treatment agency funded including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Children, Community and Youth Services, the Ministry of the Solicitor General, and the United Way to provide a range of services throughout the Halton Region.

ADAPT Mission
ADAPT is dedicated to empowering persons with alcohol, drug, gambling, or behavioural addictions, and their families, to manage these concerns and to lead more fulfilling lives through the provision of comprehensive, evidence-based services, corresponding to their individual needs.
ADAPT Vision
ADAPT envisions an addiction prevention and treatment system which is increasingly accessible, flexible and comprehensive. We envision a system built on collaboration between health care providers, which supports coordinated and integrated care across all sectors. We envision health care that evolves through the voice of the consumer, and continuously reduces barriers, service gaps and inequities.
The Board is actively recruiting to fill the following positions:
- Director and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee:
- 3-year term
Responsibilities of new director positions:
Each individual Director is expected to:
- Know the organization’s mission, vision, policies and programs
- Understand the organization’s financial statements
- Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
- Leverage connections, networks, and resources to achieve and advance the organization’s mission
- Prepare, attend, and actively participate in board meetings and in one or more committees
The Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee is expected to:
- Lead the Finance & Audit Committee
- Review, monitor the annual budget
- Liaise with the CEO on financial related matters
- Maintain an understanding of ADAPT’s financial assets
- Inform the Board of Directors on financial matters
- Interact with the corporation’s auditor, as required
As a Board, we are working to be a leader in challenging systemic bias and barriers by learning together and reflecting on our policies and practices. As we enter this recruitment cycle to find new directors to join the Board, we are looking to balance the competencies and skills needed with a diversity of experiences and perspectives. The following have been prioritized for this recruitment campaign:
- General skills: strong communication skills, collaborative decision-making skills, effective leadership skills, good time management skills to ensure appropriate preparation for meetings and discussions.
- Governance competencies:
- CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA) strongly preferred, or equivalent senior financial expertise.
- Experience in nonprofit, charitable, public-sector, or mission-driven organizations.
- Strong understanding of fund accounting, restricted funds, and grant reporting.
- Strategic financial planning and analytical capability.
- Clear communicator with a collaborative leadership style.
- Previous board experience is helpful but not necessary.
- Perspectives: Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC), lived or work experience in diversity, equity and inclusion, or anti-racism work.
