About TAIBU Community Health Centre
TAIBU Community Health Centre (CHC) is a multidisciplinary, non-for-profit, community led organization established to serve Black Communities across the GTA as its priority population. TAIBU is in the Malvern neighborhood of Scarborough, Ontario. TAIBU is a Kiswahili word used by well-wishers as a greeting that means, “Be in Good Health”.
Vision
Achieving and maintaining health through community development, knowledge exchange, empowerment and the elimination of racism and other forms of prejudice and discrimination in health care.
Mission
TAIBU CHC provides primary health care and related services for Black populations across the Greater Toronto Area as its priority population and residents of our local community of Malvern. Recognizing that systemic oppression has fostered conditions of ill-health with Black communities, we strive to deliver these services through intersectional, equity-based, and culturally affirming practices which promote holistic wellness, health education, and prevention.
Role of the Board of Directors
TAIBU's Board of Directors provides Afrocentric governance and implements TAIBU's strategic vision, mission, and values. The Board advances TAIBU’s three strategic priorities: expand and deepen services; influence the black health and social service ecosystem; and strengthen organizational leadership, legacy, and resiliency. TAIBU’s work is centered on charting a bold path to improved Black health and well-being. The Board is composed of up to twelve (12) individuals with backgrounds in a diverse set of disciplines and expertise.
Board members are expected to attend nine (9) hybrid meetings annually and join at least two of the Board's sub-committees.
