Shape the Future of Culturally Centered Senior Care
Villa Cathay Care Home Society invites visionary leaders to apply for a position on our Board of Directors. As an Accredited organization with Exemplary Standing, Villa Cathay is dedicated to maintaining high standards of care and safety for our residents. Located in Vancouver’s historic Strathcona neighborhood, we have been a cornerstone of compassionate, culturally sensitive long-term care for the Chinese Canadian community since 1978. Following our recent redevelopment, we now serve 173 residents in a state-of-the-art facility designed to honor language, tradition, and the dignity of our seniors.
The Opportunity
As a volunteer Board Member, you will provide strategic oversight and governance to ensure Villa Cathay remains a leader in the senior care sector. You will collaborate with a diverse team of professionals to guide policy development, financial stewardship, and long-term advocacy, ensuring our mission is sustained for generations to come.
Skills and Qualifications
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who are aligned with our mission. To complement our current Board composition, we are specifically seeking individuals with established professional expertise in:
- Healthcare Systems & Policy: Knowledge of the long-term care landscape and health-sector trends.
- Organizational Strategy: Experience in high-level visioning and long-range planning.
- Board Governance & Ethics: Familiarity with fiduciary duties and non-profit governance best practices.
- Financial Stewardship: Insight into fiscal sustainability, audit oversight, and resource management.
- Risk & Legal Oversight: Understanding of regulatory compliance and enterprise risk management.
- Community Development: Experience in community mobilization and building strategic partnerships.
- Fundraising: Expertise in philanthropic growth and supporting major gift or capital campaigns.
- Technology & Innovation: Awareness of digital transformation and the strategic role of AI in future-ready organizations.
Commitment & Eligibility
Time Commitment:
- Attend monthly Board meetings (available both virtually and in-person).
- Serve on or lead at least one Board committee.
- Participate in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and annual strategic planning sessions.
- Dedicate approximately 3–5 hours of service per month.
Requirements & Qualities:
- Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, a resident of British Columbia, and able to pass a comprehensive criminal record check.
- Alignment: We seek strategic, collaborative thinkers who possess a deep personal or professional commitment to the cultural mission of Villa Cathay.
