Director – Board of Directors
Purpose: To advise, govern, oversee policy and provide direction and assistance with the leadership and general promotion of Moorelands Kids so as to support the organization’s mission and needs.
General: A Director is fully informed on organizational matters and participates in the Board’s deliberations and decisions in matters of policy, finance, fundraising, strategy and advocacy.
Expectations of Board members:
- To help communicate and promote Moorelands’ mission and programs
- To prioritize Moorelands as a charity of choice.
- To support and participate in fundraising events
- To become familiar with Moorelands’ finances, budget, and financial/resource needs
Major responsibilities:
- Prepares for, and attends board meetings
- Directors should expect to devote on average 5-10 hours per month on Board business. This includes preparing for and attending regular board and committee meetings, attending special ad hoc meetings, and meetings with other community partners. It may also include attending special events such as fundraisers or community engagements.
- Provides leadership, advice and the benefit of their professional experience to the organization
- Approves, where appropriate, policy and other recommendations received from the Board, its committees and management
- Understands and monitors all Board policies
- Provides financial oversight, including the adoption and oversight of the annual budget
- Participates in one or more Committees
- Promotes the organization and acts as a Moorelands ambassador
- Actively participates in outreach and fundraising activities
- Assists in the development and maintenance of positive relations among the Board, committees, staff members, and community to enhance Moorelands’ mission
Length of term: Three years, this may be renewed for an additional term pending approval of the Board.
Meetings and time commitment:
- The Board of Directors schedules five meetings annually
- Committees of the Board meet according to their respective work agendas
