Unpaid Volunteer Position

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada (CCC) is a national, volunteer-based charity focused on finding the cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improving the lives of children and adults affected by these diseases. We are one of the top two health charity funders of Crohn’s and colitis research in the world, investing over $150 million in research since 1974, leading to important breakthroughs and laying the groundwork for new and better treatments. We are transforming the lives of people affected by Crohn’s and colitis through research, patient programs, advocacy, and awareness. Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors guides our strategic goals and priorities, sets out policies, and ensures that our organization follows good governance and demonstrates accountability to our stakeholders.

At this time, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is looking to augment the work of the Board, by recruiting Board Directors who are representative of the diverse social fabric of Canada, and who have a strong sense of volunteerism. The organization requires a strong, supportive, and inspiring Board of Directors who will provide exceptional leadership and governance along the path to fulfilling the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada Promise - To cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the lives of children and adults affected by these chronic diseases.

Serving as a Board Director will offer the opportunity to expand an individual’s network of peers and professionals, serve in a leadership position that serves others, and make a positive difference in the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada community of patients, volunteers, researchers, and health care providers, as well as being an integral part of a highly dedicated team of Directors.

The expectations of each individual Board Director are as follows:

  • know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
  • read and understand the organization’s financial statements
  • serve as an active advocate and ambassador for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for CCC to advance its mission
  • leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action
  • prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
  • participate fully in a Board committee or other organizational committees/work
  • give a meaningful personal financial donation

Board Directors will initially serve a three-year term and will be eligible for a re- appointment for an additional term. Board meetings are four times a year, with one-to-two in-person meetings in Toronto, Ontario, and committee meetings are held virtually in coordination with Board meetings.

At this time, we are seeking candidates with skills, experience and/or openness in and to fundraising. We are also seeking Director candidates, those with experience including in corporate governance, legal, risk management, and/or fundraising that reside in Atlantic Canada.
