
Board of Directors
Evergreen is seeking 3 to 4 new members to join its volunteer Board of Directors.
At Evergreen, we believe that cities can be powerful levers for change, and that public spaces within our cities can worker harder for both people and planet. We are looking for additional Board members who share our drive to realize the potential for public spaces to bring people together andreplenish our natural environment.
We are a national non-profit transforming public spaces in our cities for the health of people and our planet. With over 30 years of championing urban sustainability, we see the potential of our cities to solve some of the biggest issues facing our time and believe that our public spaces are the key to unlocking it. We see beyond the spaces that exist today and imagine them transformed into places where people and nature thrive.
What You Will Do:
Board members contribute to regularly scheduled Board and Committee meetings and draw from their individual areas of expertise to provide sound advice. They work together, and collaboratively with our staff team, to make decisions that help strengthen and grow Evergreen to meet the opportunities on the horizon.
Evergreen has an active staff-led Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. Members of our Board are encouraged to contribute to the work of this committee, supporting efforts towards making Evergreen, and Evergreen Brick Works, a place where all feel welcome, included and celebrated.
Board members also act as ambassadors for Evergreen, assisting with everything from partnership development, community engagement, media relations and fundraising initiatives.

Our Board members are often leaders in their field and contribute their expertise in areas that range from finance and accounting to public policy, community engagement, marketing, human resources, DEI, Information Technology, and beyond. Currently, we have a specific need for new Board members with skills or experience in the following areas:
- Accounting
- Public policy
- Government relations
- Fundraising
- A strong profile in placemaking

Time Commitment:
The full Board meets 4 times per year. Individual Board members also contribute to at least one committee, with each committee meeting 3 to 4 times per year. Board members are expected to make best efforts to attend all regularly scheduled Board and Committee meetings, reviewing pre-read materials in advance. A commitment of approximately 3 to 5 hours per month is expected, in addition to some additional time for Spring and Fall in-person sessions.
Term Length:
Board members have a 3-year term, with optional renewal for an additional 3-year term, to a maximum term-limit of 6 years.
Location:
Board meetings are held in-person and Committee meetings are held remotely. Travel and accommodation expenses are reimbursed for in-person meetings for Board members located outside of the GTA.

Selection Process:
The Board’s Governance & HR Committee will review applications after the November 3 deadline. Qualified and short-listed candidates will be invited to meet with a selection panel from the Governance & HR Committee in the Winter/early Spring, with successful candidates being put forward for election at the Board’s AGM in May or June of 2026.
