Cycling Without Age Canada Directors come from all walks of life and from all corners of this country, yet they have one thing in common – a strong passion for building a cross-generational community. People are the most important resource to any organization. Ensuring diversity on the board is a critical component of the makeup of our team. This means identifying candidates who will bring a diversity of gender, ethnicity, culture, and thought to their duties.
Candidates should have a commitment to respect, safety, and fun. Directors must have a genuine interest in contributing to the fulfillment of the responsibilities of a governance board, including oversight of policy development, financial processes, and risk management. Ideal candidates should feel comfortable providing objective and independent points of view with sound judgment and a broad perspective. They should be good communicators with the ability to listen, question, and challenge in a constructive manner.

MISSION
Cycling Without Age Canada aims to reduce social isolation by providing comfortable and safe access to adaptive cycling. We promote positive social change for people of all ages, abilities, cultures, and backgrounds.
MANDATE
Our Mandate is to promote and steward the Cycling Without Age movement across Canada. ROLE Cycling Without Age Canada is primarily responsible for expanding the number of local chapters across Canada, implementing national initiatives to support the ongoing operations of all Canadian chapters, and forming strategic partnerships for the benefit of the Cycling Without Age movement across Canada. Responsibilities of the Board
As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:
- stewarding the mission and purposes of the organization
- stewarding the execution of the strategic plan and funding activities
- selecting and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director
- ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
- assisting in the refinement and implementation of the organization’s policies and procedures
- assisting in the refinement and implementation of the organization’s programs and services
- representing Cycling Without Age at meetings/events with Partnership and Key Stakeholders
Responsibilities of Individual Board Members Each individual board member is expected to:
- understand the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs - faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements
- serve as active advocates for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
- leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission
- help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization's growth strategy,
- fundraising capabilities or can influence public policy
- prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
- participate fully in one or more committees

COMMITMENTS As a strong advocate helping to advance CWA Canada’s mission, board members will be expected to attend quarterly board meetings, and periodically participate in activities advancing four key areas of focus: Expanding Our Reach, Fostering Community, Building Capacity, and Exploring Beyond the Bike.
