If you want to stop cancer before it starts, here’s your opportunity to contribute!
Prevent Cancer Now is seeking new Board members to serve on its working Board of Directors. Board members contribute 5 to 10 hours per month supporting cancer prevention, promoting healthiest choices and least-toxic options in a comprehensive array of environmental and health contexts.
Working at the crossroads of science, policy and law, PCN reviews and translates science for decision-makers and the public, and supports numerous other groups in efforts to promote positive change. We write briefs, engage decision-makers, and carry out public education. We welcome organizers and those with administrative skills, who can enhance our cancer prevention efforts!
PCN is a diverse group of dedicated individuals with a passion to prevent cancer. If this is your passion too, we welcome your engagement!
With over 15 years of action, PCN has gained expertise, experience and a strong voice, addressing many exposures that contribute to cancer with solid science-based advocacy.
We have published in national media and scientific literature. We present to political decision-makers, comment to regulators, and share guidance to the public for least-toxic living including lifestyle tips to stop carcinogens in your food, home, workplace and recreational environment.
Prevent Cancer Now is the one national organization working to turn the tide of more and more cancers, especially in younger Canadians.
We are looking for individuals who are wanting to step up to the frontlines with the many initiatives to eliminate preventable contributors to cancer.
Current initiatives include:
- Innovative thinking for least-toxic approaches
- Profiling current scientific and medical research relevant to shifting health and environmental legislation and policies linked to chemical or radiation contamination.
- Translating scientific imperatives into law and practice
- Seeking Environmental Social Justice and Occupational Health in all decision-making.
- Promoting organic agriculture
- Education and profiling of research about “wireless” radiation
- Linking cancer prevention to climate change and biodiversity.
- Pushing for monitoring of asbestos particles in our drinking water
- Advocating for meaningful measures and enforcement mechanisms to implement the Right to a Healthy Environment including the need to address wireless radiation.
- Opposing a Near-surface Nuclear Waste Disposal site near the Ottawa River, and Incineration proposals for waste management
- Assisting locally to support least-toxic pest control and environmentally preferred alternatives across landscapes.
PCN Board members act as campaigners to advance science-based least-toxic solutions.
Board members share their skillsand experience to organize, educate, take political action, fundraise, and work with experts in science and policy.
This is a unique opportunity to learn more about cancer prevention and to support the collective actions needed to make effective change!
AGM attendance and board positions are open to PCN members (no cost, although donations are welcome!).
