Call for Applications – NCGC Board of Directors (2026-28)

The Northern Council for Global Cooperation is seeking dedicated and globally-minded individuals to serve on its volunteer Board of Directors.

NCGC is a Yukon-based nonprofit organization that advances global citizenship, international cooperation, public engagement, and social justice through education, partnerships, dialogue, and collaboration. The organization works to foster a more just, equitable, and sustainable world through locally rooted and globally connected initiatives.

The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership, governance oversight, and stewardship to support the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability.

Board Responsibilities

Board Directors work collaboratively to:

  • Provide strategic direction and organizational oversight
  • Support strong governance, accountability, and ethical leadership
  • Review and approve organizational policies, budgets, and annual plans
  • Support financial stewardship and risk management
  • Participate in board meetings and committee work
  • Serve as ambassadors for the organization and its mission
  • Support fundraising, partnerships, and community engagement efforts

Desired Skills and Experience

NCGC welcomes applications from individuals with diverse lived experiences, professional backgrounds, and community perspectives. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Financial management or accounting
  • Legal, governance, or policy expertise
  • Human resources and organizational development
  • Fundraising and donor engagement
  • Communications, marketing, or media
  • Community development and public engagement
  • International cooperation or global affairs
  • Nonprofit leadership and governance
  • Equity, anti-racism, decolonization, and social justice work

Previous board experience is considered an asset but is not required.

Board Terms and Commitment

  • Directors serve a two-year term
  • Board meetings
  • Directors are expected to participate on at least one committee
  • Estimated commitment is approximately 2-5 hours per month
  • Meetings are held virtually or in-person for a board retreat in Whitehorse, Yukon

The Board of Directors is elected annually at the organization’s Annual General Meeting.
