Position: Treasurer - Board of Directors
Location: Remote
Board Directors are responsible for upholding FBF’s vision and mission, setting the strategic direction of the organization, and ensuring the Executive Director and staff are effectively executing activities and delivering programs that will serve the best interests of the clients we serve. Responsibility for day-to-day management of FBF’s operations is delegated to the Executive Director.
Building strong relationships and goodwill with the community, including donors, community partners, volunteers, and clients, is a vital part of serving on FBF’s board. Board Directors are expected to support the organization's initiatives and help it to achieve its goals.
This can include: participating in and promoting fundraising events and sharing details of FBF's programs and services on social media; supporting FBF’s advocacy and public relations efforts; and building general awareness within their networks of FBF’s overall purpose and impact.
Responsibilities
● Oversees the financial management and fiscal policies of FBF;
● Ensures accurate and timely financial reporting to the Board, including budget updates, financial statements, and audit reports;
● Acts as the primary liaison between the Board and the Finance Committee or external financial advisors;
● Reviews and monitors the organization’s financial transactions and investments to ensure compliance with the approved budget and governance policies;
● Supports the development of the annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and Finance Committee and presents it for Board approval;
● Assists in developing and maintaining internal controls for financial procedures to prevent fraud and mismanagement;
● Serves as a signing authority on behalf of FBF for financial documents and contracts, as authorized by the Board;
● Provides guidance on the financial implications of Board decisions and strategic plans;
● Coordinates with the Executive Director and Secretary to prepare financial disclosures required for regulatory and legal compliance;
● Participates in Board meetings and contributes to discussions, particularly those affecting financial governance and sustainability;
● Ensures that the organization complies with all applicable tax, audit, and financial reporting obligations;
● Engages in capacity-building and succession planning for the financial governance function of the Board.
Time Commitment
Board members are expected to attend a monthly meeting (2 hours) which is held virtually. In addition, there are 3 standing committees of the Board:
- Stewardship
- Connection
- Impact
Directors are expected to participate as committee members on at least one of the organization’s three committees and to attend the committee’s scheduled monthly meeting.
