Help a Girl Out (HAGO)is entering an exciting phase of growth and is committed to strengthening our culture of fundraising by establishing a formal development department.

As a registered Canadian charity, Help A Girl Out (HAGO) is dedicated to advancing menstrual equity and empowering women and girls through community engagement programs, inclusive uterine and menstrual health education, and increased access to menstrual products and resources for equity-deserving communities.

By joining our Board of Directors, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our mission, supporting our growth, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our work. As the Director of Development, you will lead efforts to secure the financial resources needed to fuel our programs—leveraging stewardship, partnerships, donor engagement, networking, and event execution. Fundraising is essential to ensuring that HAGO can continue providing menstrual education and essential products to those who need them most.

The Director of Development will expand on HAGO’s existing donor cultivation and solicitation activities. A donor CRM system, strategic fundraising framework, and five-year projection have already been developed. Building on these foundations, the Director will help create the infrastructure required to support the CEO and Board in fundraising efforts while also launching new, mission-aligned revenue-generating initiatives.

This volunteer role is ideal for someone who is passionate about relationship-building, brings a strong background in fundraising strategy, and can confidently communicate HAGO’s impact to donors, partners, and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Refine and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including individual giving, corporate partnerships, grants, and special events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors, ensuring effective stewardship and engagement.
  • Identify new fundraising opportunities and develop innovative campaigns to expand HAGO’s donor base.
  • Lead the board’s efforts in donor cultivation and major gift solicitation.
  • Work alongside the Chair of Finance to ensure alignment between fundraising efforts and financial needs.
  • Keep the board informed on fundraising progress and advise on strategies to enhance donor engagement.
  • Plan and oversee fundraising events and initiatives to support HAGO’s programs.
  • Commit 10-15 hours per month to the duties listed above.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of revenue generating methods
  • Strong network and ability to establish connections with donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
  • Expertise in developing and executing successful fundraising campaigns and strategies.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with donor management systems and understanding of tax receipt processes.
  • Passionate about HAGO’s mission, vision & values

As a Director at Help a Girl Out, you are expected to:

  • Stay up to date on organizational announcements, prepare for meetings, and review and provide input on reports and minutes.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with fellow HAGO members to foster a cooperative environment and support decision-making.
  • Actively engage in the organization’s annual evaluation and strategic planning activities.
