Help Shape the Future of Specialized Education in Alberta

Janus Academy Society is seeking experienced professionals to join its volunteer Board of Directors.

As part of our Board renewal, we are recruiting individuals with expertise in Business Strategy, Strategic Partnerships & Business Development, or Human Resources & Organizational Effectiveness. We are seeking multiple candidates who can bring diverse perspectives, leadership experience, and specialized expertise to complement and strengthen the Board’s collective capabilities.

About Janus Academy

Founded in 1997, Janus Academy is an accredited, independent, non-profit school dedicated exclusively to educating children and youth with autism. Through evidence-based educational programming grounded in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), we support approximately 90 students in Grades 1–12, helping them develop the academic, social, communication, and life skills needed to reach their full potential.

The Board of Directors provides governance leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to support the organization’s continued success, sustainability, and ability to serve students and families.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome candidates with senior leadership experience in one or more of the following areas:

Business Strategy

  • Strategic planning and organizational growth
  • Executive leadership and organizational transformation
  • Corporate governance and strategic decision-making
  • Change management and organizational effectiveness

Strategic Partnerships & Business Development

  • Partnership development and relationship management
  • Community, stakeholder, and external engagement
  • Revenue diversification and sustainability strategies
  • Identifying and advancing opportunities for organizational growth

Human Resources & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Senior Human Resources leadership experience
  • Workforce strategy, organizational development, and workplace culture
  • Talent management, leadership development, and succession planning
  • Human resources governance, policies, and best practices
  • Employee relations and organizational risk management
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the education sector and knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, employment legislation, and human resources practices within a school or non-profit environment.

Previous board experience is an asset but is not required.

Board Responsibilities

Board Directors provide governance oversight and strategic guidance through:

  • Supporting strategic planning and organizational priorities
  • Ensuring sound financial stewardship and risk management
  • Participating in Board and committee meetings
  • Providing expertise and perspective aligned with organizational needs
  • Serving as ambassadors for Janus Academy within the broader community

Time Commitment: Approximately 6 hours per month which includes 6 board meetings and committee meetings, as needed. Directors serve a two-year term, with the opportunity for renewal.
