About the Organization Ottawa Childbirth Education (OCEA) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to supporting expectant and new families have access to excellent pre and post-natal education that is founded on the philosophy of Freedom of Choice Based on a Knowledge of Alternatives.
Position Summary
The Board positions ensure the organization's financial health and accountability. This role is critical in safeguarding resources, supporting sustainable growth, and ensuring compliance with non-profit regulations. You will contribute your expertise to support effective policy development, provide organizational oversight, and community engagement, helping OCEA achieve its mission and deepen its impact
Key Responsibilities
Attend and actively participate in 5-6 Board meetings a year. Provide input on strategic planning, budgeting, and goal setting. Ensure organizational integrity by upholding legal and policy compliance. Help identify and mitigate strategic, financial, legal, and reputational risks. Support funding applications for specialized. Assist with evaluating the performance of executive leadership and overall organizational performance. Contribute to Board recruitment, orientation, and leadership succession planning to maintain strong governance. Champion and uphold the mission, values and vision of Ottawa Childbirth Education Association.
Qualifications
A strong commitment to the mission and values of OCEA. Background in accounting, finance, or business. Previous Board or leadership experience is an asset. Understanding of non-profit financial management. Strong integrity, attention to detail, and communication skills. Understanding of the unique experiences of maternal physical and mental health. Capacity to commit the time and energy necessary to fulfill Board duties.
Time Commitment Approx. 2-3 hours/month (board and committee meetings, preparation)
Term: 2 years (renewable)
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with culturally diverse and equity-seeking communities. Familiarity with the non-profit sector in Ontario.
