About the Organization:

Now in our 26th year of charitable, community-based service, Compassion Society of Halton currently serves over 800 families who live below the poverty line within the Halton Region, many of whom are newcomers, seniors, single-parent families, homeless or at risk of homelessness. The CSH provides food, clothing, footwear, hygiene and personal care items, linens and small household items to clients struggling financially and with food insecurity in the Halton Region. CSH partners with many supportive local and regional agencies to connect individuals and families to services such as housing, mental health & addictions, and employment.

Our mission is to provide help where it’s needed when it’s needed.

Position Overview:

We are looking for new members to join our Community Outreach and Communications Committee and our Fundraising Committee. We are looking for individuals who bring the following skills to enhance the impact and success of our committee work.

Key Areas of Focus include:

  • Community Outreach and Communications
  • Establishing a strong and engaging social media presence
  • Promoting fundraising campaigns in support of CSH’s mission
  • Building ongoing relationships with local and regional media outlets in support of communication initiatives
  • Re-igniting traditional communications such as newsletters, website updates, and community outreach activities
  • Fundraising and Donor Relations
  • Enhancing and supporting donor electronic platforms and online giving tools
  • Soliciting and cultivating new donors while strengthening relationships with existing supporters
  • Supporting donor stewardship, including retention, recognition, and meaningful communication
  • Leading annual fundraising campaign
    Contributing to strategies that promote sustainable and predictable funding
    Assisting with managing grant and rebate application processes, including research, preparation, and tracking


Location: Virtual/Occasional Onsite Head Office: Burlington, On


Candidate Skills and Experience Requirements:

Community Outreach and Communications

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and ability to organized and manage multiple platforms consistently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (friendly, professional tone)
  • Ability to develop communication content and understanding of audience targeting
  • Experience in website development and maximizing website performance
  • Ability to analyze simple performance metrics (likes, reach, engagement)

Fundraising and Donor Relations

  • Has experience in donor stewardship, fundraising, electronic donor platforms, or donor communications
  • Has successfully planned and executed an annual fundraising campaign
  • Has grant experience in sourcing, criteria analysis, writing business cases and completing online applications
  • Has leveraged connections, networks, and resources
