
Board Chair for OnePeople Philanthropy
OnePeople Philanthropy is seeking a visionary, high-integrity leader to serve as our Chair of the Board. This is a pivotal moment for our organization as we scale our impact and refine our strategic direction. The Chair will be a partner to the Executive Director (ED), providing the governance, oversight, and leadership necessary to ensure OnePeople remains a leader in equitable and effective global giving.
The ideal candidate isn't just a "name" on a letterhead; they are a seasoned strategist who understands that true philanthropy is about shifting power as much as it is about shifting resources.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Lead the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary and legal responsibilities.
- Preside over Board meetings, ensuring discussions are productive, inclusive, and focused on long-term strategy.
- In partnership with the ED, lead the development and periodic review of the organization’s mission and strategic plan.
Executive Partnership & Mentorship
- Act as a confidential sounding board and advisor to the Executive Director.
- Oversee the ED’s annual performance evaluation and compensation review.
- Facilitate a healthy, transparent relationship between the Board and the staff.
Board Development & Management
- Identify, recruit, and onboard a diverse pipeline of new Board members.
- Ensure the Board’s composition reflects the communities OnePeople serves.
- Foster a culture of active participation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Ambassadorship & Fundraising
- Represent OnePeople Philanthropy in high-level public forums and with key stakeholders.
- Support fundraising efforts by opening doors to prospective donors and institutional partners.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a candidate who brings a "steady hand" and a "bold heart." You should possess:
- Prior Governance Experience: Significant experience serving on (and ideally leading) a non-profit or corporate Board. You understand the nuances of governance vs. management.
- Proven Leadership: A career history of executive-level leadership (CEO, President, or equivalent) within the philanthropic, NGO, or social enterprise sectors.
- Cultural Competency: A deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and the ethical considerations of global philanthropy.
- Diplomacy: The ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics and build consensus among strong-willed stakeholders.
Commitment & Term
- Term: Two-year term, renewable once.
- Time Commitment: Approximately 10–15 hours per month, including quarterly Board meetings and monthly check-ins with the ED.
Note: This is a volunteer position. However, all travel and business expenses related to the role will be fully reimbursed.
