
Board and Committee Members
Neighbourhood Information Post (N.I.P.) is a non-profit, community-based organization which has served the downtown eastern core of Toronto since 1971.
The services that we provide include:
- Information, Referral, Communication services for the homeless
- Telephone and Computer Internet Access,
- Supportive Counselling
- Form-Filling, Advocacy, Translation,
- Housing Support, Toronto Rent Bank Services and Housing Trusteeship Services
- An Annual Income-Tax Clinic.
- Social inclusion programs for socially isolated individuals, including women and seniors
The majority of our clients are low-income, extremely disadvantaged, isolated and/ or marginalized (e.g. people who are homeless or under-housed, refugees or immigrants who have recently arrived in Canada, women leaving abusive relationships, etc).
NIP currently receives funding from three levels of government and United Way of Greater Toronto. It also receives financial support from corporate partners such as Toronto Hydro.
We are currently looking for committed volunteers who live or work in the Downtown Toronto East area to serve on our Board of Directors and Board of Committees.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop long/short-range goals and objectives for the organization.
- Approve policy and other recommendations received from the board, its standing committees and senior staff.
- Monitor all board policies.
- Review the bylaws and policy manual, and recommend bylaw changes to the membership.
- Approve Neighbourhood Information Post’s budget and ensure that the organization is in a sound financial position
- Assist in developing and maintaining positive relationships among the board committees, staff members, and community to enhance Neighbourhood Information Post’s mission.
- Represent Neighbourhood Information Post in the community.
Qualifications and Skills:
- At least two years of experience in the field related to the organization’s mission and purpose.
- Experience with strategic planning and organizational development.
- Experience with public relations, marketing and communications.
Time and Financial Commitments:
- Board members are expected to attend board meetings every two months, up to three special events per year, and to do committee work for a maximum of three hours per month.

- Finance and Risk Management Committee
- Governance Committee
- Programming Committee
- Human Resources Committee
