Become a Mentor with StepStones for Youth
At StepStones for Youth, we believe every young person deserves a steady, caring adult in their corner. Our Mentorship Program connects youth involved in the child welfare system with long-term, one-to-one mentors who provide guidance, friendship, and consistent support across all areas of life.
About the Role
As a StepStones mentor, you'll be matched with a youth and meet with them every 2–3 weeks for approximately 3–4 hours. What you do during that time is up to you both — grabbing a meal, exploring the city, working toward goals, or simply spending quality time together. The most important thing you bring is consistency and genuine care.
This isn't a short-term commitment. We're looking for mentors who are ready to be a lasting presence in a young person's life — someone they can count on not just this year, but for years to come.
Who We're Looking For
- 25 years of age or older
- Located in the GTA, Durham, Peel, York, or surrounding areas
- Able to commit to a minimum of 3 years (lifelong commitment preferred)
- Patient, reliable, and passionate about supporting young people
- Willing to complete an interview process, training, and documentation requirements
General Requirements
As the basis, all mentors must:
- ✅ Complete a Volunteer Application
- ✅ Attend a Volunteer Information Session
- ✅ Provide a Vulnerable Sector Check
Why It Matters
Many of the youth we serve have experienced instability, loss, and uncertainty. A mentor isn't just a volunteer — you become one of the most meaningful relationships in a young person's life. The impact you make extends far beyond your time together.
If you've ever wished you had someone steady in your corner growing up, be that person for a youth today.
