Storytelling Toronto is recruiting new members to its Board of Directors and we are looking for inspired, active and interested individuals to fill the vacancies.

Organization Description:

Storytelling Toronto is a Non-Profit, Registered Charitable Organization with an over 40-year history of encouraging storytelling in modern society. Storytelling Toronto is run primarily by volunteers, and supported by part-time paid staff.

Over the years many hundreds of people have taken courses and workshops at Storytelling Toronto, and many thousands have come to the annual Toronto International Storytelling Festival to enjoy stories told by local, national, and international storytellers.

The Storytelling Toronto Board is dedicated to the organization’s mission. Serving on the Storytelling Toronto Board is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about strengthening leadership and governance in the nonprofit sector. We are looking for individuals with a background in Law, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Public Relations or Communications.

Board Member Responsibilities:

Board members are expected to:

• have the financial acumen to read and understand Storytelling Toronto’s financial statements and to otherwise help the Board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.
• attend a once/month Board meeting: read board materials in advance of board meetings and come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.
• serve on one or more committees of the Board, actively participate in committee work and attend sponsored events when possible.
• responsibly represent Storytelling Toronto to their respective communities and to advocate for the Organization’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate.

Board terms last for one year.

There is no financial requirement other than becoming a member of Storytelling Toronto ($40 annually).
