Title: BC Community Coordinator

Term: Full Time (35hrs/week). Hours may vary based on program needs.

Compensation: $47,367 - $52,367 annually

Location: Hybrid: 3 days per week in-office, 2 days remote with regular program site visits

Office Location: 1001 Cotton Drive, Vancouver, BC, V5L 3T4

Employment Start Date: March 2026

The Opportunity

United for Literacy is seeking a reliable, organized, and proactive BC Community Coordinator to support volunteer-based literacy programs across British Columbia.

This relationship-focused role strengthens community partnerships, engages and supports volunteers, and helps ensure the smooth operation of literacy programs throughout the province. The BC Community Coordinator works closely with the BC Regional Coordinator to align priorities, support program delivery, and respond to seasonal cycles and evolving organizational needs. The position involves regular travel to partner sites and program locations.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Partnership Coordination

  • Maintain professional relationships with all community partners.
  • Understand partner program structures, schedules, and volunteer needs.
  • Ensure volunteers are placed and supported according to program agreements.
  • Support program delivery aligned with funder requirements and budgets.
  • Track program progress, report issues, and escalate risks as needed.
  • Complete program-related projects and support operational improvements.

Volunteer Coordination & Support

  • Manage the full volunteer coordination process: recruitment, interviews, reference and criminal record checks, onboarding, placement, training, and ongoing support.
  • Monitor volunteer participation, hours, satisfaction, and engagement.
  • Adjust assignments to align with program needs and partner expectations.

Data Integrity & Reporting Coordination

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of volunteers, programs, learners, and resources in the internal database.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and reporting period summaries for internal oversight and external submission.

Office, Space & Resource Coordination

  • Maintain the BC office and book room in a safe, organized, and professional state.
  • Proactively coordinate the intake, organization, and distribution of books, activity kits, and literacy resources.
  • Prepare logistics for partner visits and volunteer trainings; maintain materials.
  • Be present on designated in-office days (minimum three days per week), understand BC office and school schedules, travel to program sites (approximately bi-weekly) and be flexible to work remotely as needed.
  • Arrange transportation for partner site visits and program oversight.

Communication & Risk Coordination

  • Plan and prioritize work according to guidance from the BC Regional Coordinator.
  • Maintain timely communication with volunteers, partners, and internal staff.
  • Escalate risks, incidents, or program issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Adapt workflows to seasonal program cycles, reporting timelines, and evolving operational needs and may oversee interns or program support staff as needed.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of community and volunteer programs, program planning and evaluation, partnerships, volunteer management, and relevant trends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reporting and documentation
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with experience coordinating volunteers and facilitating trainings
  • Self-directed, with diplomacy, tact, and sound judgment
  • Proficient with databases, spreadsheets, and standard office tools

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a related area of work
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and standard office tools
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel across the Lower Mainland, with flexibility to travel to other locations if needed
  • Ability to lift, carry, load, and unload boxes of books and literacy materials, including transport to program sites
