About The End FGM Canada Network
The End FGM Canada Network is a group of survivors, civil society organizations, activists, policy specialists, healthcare providers, educators and others committed to the abandonment of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) both in Canada and globally. The Network seeks to connect, support, elevate and advocate with its members and diverse Canadian stakeholders in FGM/C prevention, education, care and advocacy. The Network was launched in 2019 by four women who were concerned that not enough was being done to address FGM/C, a Canadian issue. Since its inception, we have built a strong foundation, influence, and a strong social media presence. The Network is Canada’s leading organization on the issue of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) domestically and internationally.
The Role
We are seeking a full-time coordinator to support and grow our Network in the Atlantic Provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Atlantic Coordinator’s role is to identify and develop meaningful relationships, to provide training to civil society organizations, law enforcement, medical associations, educational institutions and government stakeholders to increase those provinces’ ability to identify girls at risk and support survivors of FGM/C.
This position will require interprovincial travel. We will only be looking at candidates who live within the Atlantic provinces, with preference to those residing in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities
Network Building:
The Network Coordinator will play a critical leadership role in growing and implementing the priorities of The Network. This includes:
- Increase Network membership with key stakeholders in Atlantic Canada, including civil society organizations, law enforcement, medical associations, educational institutions and government stakeholders;
- Update & manage Network-related documents and database;
- Document & develop a service provider map for each of your provinces, outlining the vetted-services available to FGM/C survivors in their region;
- Represent End FGM Canada and participate in relevant external committees;
- Work closely with our social media team to support the promotion of your trainings and regional activities.
FGM/C Training
Facilitate regular FGM/C training with your stakeholders and Network members in your provinces. This includes:
- Reaching out to stakeholders to promote the project and garner interest in online training;
- Schedule and coordinate webinars, including webinar promotion, securing interpretation services, liaising with presenters and facilitating the webinars;
- Facilitate numerous FGM/C trainings a month, online or in-person;
- Assist in collecting qualitative and quantitative data as required by the funder;
- Coordinate the production of print material.
Qualifications
The Network Coordinator has an important role in ensuring the effective functioning of the Network. This position requires a proven self-starter and a strong ability to manage numerous priorities while ensuring strong results and engagement. The candidate must be a strong coalition builder and communicator. They must be able to leverage opportunities promptly while ensuring empathic engagement with all stakeholders in meeting goals. This position demands that individuals meet monthly quotas and are able to meet those targets independently.
Skills & Abilities:
- The candidate must align with the Network’s mission statement and values;
- A bachelor’s degree or a graduate degree in a related field is required;
- Knowledge and/or experience working in the field of human rights, with a focus on women's and children's rights, and gender-based violence; experience in the field of FGM/C is preferred.
- Proven record of being able to work remotely and maintain/ exceed work expectations;
- Experience building coalitions or networks;
- Experience in advocacy; experience working with member-based organizations;
- Excellent facilitation skills and enjoys public speaking;
- Must identify as a self-starter who can work remotely;
- Strong organizational skills, relationship and operations management;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Preference for those who have a driver’s license;
- Excellent English, written and oral communication skills;
- Excellent French, written and oral communication skills;
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and do not require sponsorship.
Compensation
$58,000 per year with benefits.
