Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships, the Associate Director of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major donors. This leadership role is integral to the success of Fred Victor’s ambitious vision for the future.

We are looking for an experienced fundraising professional to join a passionate and dynamic team. A person who can easily and persuasively articulate Fred Victor’s mission, and build strong, trusted and lasting relationships with donors. They must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to actively solicit and close gifts, be highly motivated to achieve Fred Victor’s fundraising goals, and able to develop and implement a growth strategy to raise the funds needed to meet the emerging organizational needs.

What You Will Do:

Strategy

  • Lead and execute the Major Gifts Growth Strategy:
  • Drive a multi-year major gifts strategy aligned with Fred Victor’s organizational priorities and funding needs.
  • Build and sustain high-value donor relationships:
  • Position Fred Victor as a trusted, compelling philanthropic partner to major donors, foundations, and corporate leaders.

Leadership

  • With the Director of Philanthropy, drive the major gifts fundraising vision and strategy in alignment with organizational priorities and needs.
  • Develop an annual plan for achieving fundraising success and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Act as a representative and spokesperson for Fred Victor by developing and nurturing relationships that drive greater philanthropic giving.
  • Coach and motivate staff and volunteers to achieve personal goals and team targets.

Philanthropy

  • Manage a portfolio of major gift donors giving (existing and driving new) in the five and six figure range
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors to achieve annual revenue targets
  • Develop multi-year philanthropic strategies to increase annual undesignated and designated gifts
  • Supervise and support the Sr. Manager of Corporate Partnerships to meet annual goals and ensure development of a strong corporate donor pipeline and effective management of volunteers
  • Lead face-to-face donor meetings, tours and direct solicitations, including with Fred Victor senior leadership and volunteers
  • Prepare compelling and persuasive written proposals, correspondence and reports
  • Develop highly customized stewardship strategies to strengthen donor engagement
  • Establish relationship management plans and goals to advance donors through the giving cycle
  • Support the VP and Director of Philanthropy with behind-the-scenes management of their portfolios, including conducting research, developing donor profiles, proposals, and strategy
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Fred Victor programs, mission, and strategic priorities and use this to create opportunities for donors
  • Participate in strategic, annual and operational planning
  • Maintain records, using CRM, tracking contacts and pipeline related information throughout the year

Communication, Stewardship and Events

  • With Communications, deliver consistent, compelling messaging for major donors
  • With Donor Services and Communications, ensure efficient and personalized stewardship
  • With Donor Engagement team, execute event follow-up for major donors and prospects
  • Participate in internal team meetings and management/senior leadership team meetings
  • Attend all major fundraising, stewardship, and cultivation events, providing support as required

What You Bring to the Team

  • Degree from a relevant university program
  • 5+ years of progressive experience and success in a major giving role
  • Thorough knowledge of fundraising practices, sector trends, and CRA guidelines
  • Demonstrated track record of stewarding, soliciting and closing gifts of $25k- $100k+
  • Demonstrated success in managing donor portfolios and advancing prospects through all stages of the giving cycle

  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal and presentation)
  • Strong project management skills: well-organized and ability to set and manage priorities
  • Experience within a social service or housing non-profit preferred
  • Strong community-building acumen and cultural competency, with an understanding of Fred Victor’s diverse community

Compensation and Benefits

  • For the Associate Director of Philanthropy, Fred Victor offers a salary range of $93,000 to $99,000
  • 4 weeks of vacation to start + 1 float day
  • Generous paid sick leave allowance
  • A comprehensive Dental, Extended Health and LTD group benefits package includes individual and family coverage, including prescriptions, hospital accommodation, hearing care, paramedical practitioners and a wide variety of dental care. Additional insurance includes vision care and travel for emergency medical services.
  • 6.5 % of your gross salary will be contributed to a group RRSP on your behalf after successful completion of probation; you will contribute 4% of your gross salary to the same RRSP
