
Associate Director, Fundraising

Sheena’s Place is a community-based, nonprofit organization offering professionally facilitated support groups and services for people affected by eating disorders and related mental health challenges. For more than 30 years, we have provided compassionate, accessible, and inclusive support for individuals and families, free of charge. Our work is grounded in dignity, community, and the belief that no one should face these challenges alone.
Position Summary
The Associate Director, Fundraising plays a key leadership role in advancing Sheena’s Place fundraising strategy and ensuring long-term revenue growth. This role oversees annual giving, major gifts, foundation grants, events, and donor stewardship initiatives. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Associate Director will drive innovative fundraising approaches, strengthen donor relationships, and support the sustainability of Sheena’s Place programs.
This is a strategic and hands-on role, ideal for a collaborative fundraising professional who excels at building relationships, managing multiple priorities, and leading high-impact development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Fundraising and Revenue Growth
▪Contribute to the development and execution of a multi-year fundraising strategy that diversifies and grows revenue across individual, corporate, foundation, and community sources.
▪Lead the planning and implementation of annual campaigns, donor appeals, and digital fundraising initiatives.
▪Build a robust major gifts pipeline.
▪Develop proposals tailored to the specific interests of major donors
Donor and Stakeholder Engagement
▪Develop and steward strong relationships with donors and partners to deepen engagement and loyalty.
▪Prepare compelling donor communications, cases for support, proposals, and impact reports.
▪Ensure timely and meaningful stewardship touchpoints across all donor segments.
▪Meet face-to-face with current and potential donors to discuss giving interests and opportunities
▪Evaluate prospective donors’ giving capacity and readiness to give
▪Identify, evaluate and recommend the necessary steps to bring prospects closer to making a major gift
▪Conduct advanced research and analysis from a variety of sources to provide detailed background data regarding donors and to inform engagement activities.
Event Leadership
▪Lead key fundraising events and community-driven third-party fundraising initiatives.
▪Work with staff, volunteers, committees, and external partners to deliver engaging, financially successful events.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
▪Provide leadership and supervision to fundraising staff, interns, or volunteers as required.
▪Work collaboratively with program staff to articulate impact and gather stories that support fundraising efforts.
▪Foster a positive, collaborative culture that aligns with the values of Sheena’s Place.
Qualifications & Experience
▪5 yrs minimum of progressive fundraising experience in the nonprofit sector, with demonstrated success in individual giving, grant writing, and stewardship.
▪A desire to own and lead the fundraising efforts of Sheena’s Place
▪Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage, inspire, build, and sustain strong collaborative working relationships with existing and prospective donors.
▪A persuasive, credible, and polished communicator with ability to effectively and passionately communicate with a wide variety of audiences both orally and in writing
▪Results-driven, hard-working and focused on continuous improvement.
▪Maintains knowledge of philanthropic trends with the ability to put into practice.
▪Flexible availability to work variable hours as needed for donor meetings and events.
▪Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
▪Proficiency with donor databases and CRM systems.
▪Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently in a small, collaborative team environment.
▪A bachelor’s degree or higher.
▪A professional designation such as CFRE is an asset
