
Associate Director, Communications and Marketing
Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, the Associate Director of Communications and Marketing is a seasoned communicator and manager, who leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of SHARE’s integrated communications strategies and workplans. They inspire collaboration, leadership and creativity within the communications team and at the management table. They ensure excellence and consistency across all media and content, and a high standard of production across written, digital, and visual materials. They ensure organizational buy-in and timely execution of a SHARE-wide content plan and calendar.
Acting as the conduit between the communications staff and the management team, they develop and ensure execution of communications-specific policies and procedures, solve problems and overcome obstacles to SHARE's visibility with key audiences and system partners. They lead on the development and execution of a marketing strategy designed to support SHARE’s sales and grant funding pipelines. The Associate Director guides management and SHARE-wide practices across programs using data and analysis to inform strategy and enhance organizational impact.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production, planning and coordination
The Associate Director works to ensure that across SHARE staff, expectations are clear and aligned for all communications and marketing plans and deliverables. The Associate Director works to problem-solve challenges with cross-team coordination, timelines, budgets, or expectations. This work will include, but not be limited to overseeing, and/or developing:
- Quarterly, annual and long-term communications workplans and strategies.
- A content plan that is an indispensable tool across SHARE for program planning and leadership.
- Production schedules for all SHARE publications, including coordination with SHARE staff and external vendors while ensuring quality of all products.
- Successful execution of all print and digital content including e-newsletter, annual reports, marketing materials, social media, blog, website and microsites.
- Quality control and standards of excellence across all SHARE products.
- Vendor management.
- Oversight of digital strategy and analytics.
- Development, implementation and regular review of communications-related policies, guidelines, processes, templates and guidance for staff.
- Regular review and evaluation of communications outputs for consistent improvement.
Marketing
- Working with SHARE senior management and seeking external advice as appropriate, the Associate Director will develop SHARE’s marketing capacity to meet the organization’s strategic plan objectives.
Writing and Editing
- An excellent writer and editor, the Associate Director will support the Manager, Communications in drafting compelling and accurate copy for a wide array of public, client, prospect, and funder-facing products.
- Working with the Communications team and the Director of Public Affairs, lead development of message and framing for SHARE and individual programs that supports the Strategic Plan.
Media Relations
- Oversee work of Communications team to build SHARE’s media profile by developing and executing effective media relations strategies.
- Identify opportunities to amplify SHARE’s profile and impact across on-line, social and traditional media.
Digital
- Oversee SHARE's digital strategy to maximize reach and impact across email, web, and social platforms to support SHARE's mission and strategic plan.
- Oversee work of SHARE's external web developer to ensure design standards are met.
- Working with Operations team, maintain a secure environment for SHARE’s digital properties.
- Ensure excellence in visuals, written word, functionality for all websites.
Management and Leadership
- Participate in SHARE’s management team and contribute to decisions and work related to strategic priorities and business development.
- Manage a team of communications professionals, within a unionized environment, including providing feedback, mentorship, coaching and performance evaluation.
- Ensure successful development, execution, financial management and evaluation of contacts and deliverables with all external communications vendors.

At a minimum, you have these qualifications:
- Seven-to-10 years’ experience in a strategic communications or marketing role, including at least three years in a personnel-management role.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a liberal arts field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding and passion for SHARE’s thematic priorities, including human rights; anti-racism; Indigenous rights and reconciliation in Canadian and international contexts, climate change and sustainability.
- Fluency in written and verbal English is required. Fluency in French is an asset.
