Assistant Store Manager

Job Purpose

The Assistant Manager will create an exciting and meaningful team environment in order to attract, recruit and retain volunteers of all ages who are passionate about fair trade. They will maintain an inviting atmosphere in order to energize volunteers and create opportunities to connect with customers. The Assistant Manager will assist the Store Manager in all duties related to managing a Village Goods store, and will be responsible for opening and closing the store several days per week.

Other Job Information:

This 0.5 FTE position (20 hours/week) reports directly to the Store Manager. Some overtime

work (especially in the Christmas season and during special promotional events) may be required occasionally. Overtime is compensated with time in lieu.

Main Job Duties:

Volunteer Training and Management

• Recruit, train and schedule volunteers.
• Visit schools, churches, etc. as necessary to recruit new volunteers
• Develop a good working relationship with the volunteer team
• Work with volunteer team to deliver exceptional sales & customer service
• Plan educational meetings and events for volunteers.

Store Operations

• Operate POS system
• Plan, organize and execute major floor and/or window changes in consultation with manager
• Work with volunteers and other staff to build the customer base and sales
• Keeping the store neat, clean and attractive to customers

Assisting the Manager and Acting in the Manager’s Absence

• Perform other duties as requested by store manager
• Manage the store in the manager's absence, including opening and closing
• Basic knowledge of ordering process and inventory management in order to assist the manager and as back-up if the manager is absent
• Assist the store Manager with promotional events and offsite sales
