Position: Contract Anger Management Counselor
Function: The purpose of this position is to facilitate CBT based Anger Management
workshops. This position involves using trauma and violence informed care, client-centered, and
anti-oppressive approaches to enhance clients’ level of accountability and motivation to change
problematic thinking and behavioural patterns that puts them at risk of becoming involved with
the criminal justice system.
Schedule: Flexible hours - Contract Position – at least 7 hours per week
Start Date: As soon as possible
Location: Remote and Onsite at The Ontario Court of Justice – Toronto or Downtown Toronto
East Justice Centre
Reports to: Director of Justice and Court Programs (his/her designate)
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY:
ï· To work co-operatively with Toronto Police Services, Crown Attorneys, Defence/Duty Council, Probation Officers and other significant community stakeholders.ï
ï· To review client referrals to determine program eligibility.ï ï· To conduct in person/virtual client assessments or individual sessions at the OCJ-T/DTE
Justice Centre using MIT, TTM and TVIC models.ï
ï· To facilitate weekly anger management workshops online or in person dependent on client needs.ï
ï· To provide immediate crisis support and resources as the need arises.ï ï· To assess and determine if additional supports are required and make referrals for clients
on bail or on probation, e.g. housing, mental health support, substance use treatment, etc.ï
ï· To maintain accurate documentation/records required by the program i.e. client progress reports, completion certificates, client database, client files, statistical records; attendance records.ï
ï· To assist in other duties as required from time to time.ï
ï· To attend and participate in all staff meetings, supervisory meetings and case conferences.ï ï· To maintain a high degree of professionalism and accountability as a JHST staff serving
the community.ï
QUALIFICATIONS:
ï· University Degree or Post-Secondary Two-year Diploma in relevant field (i.e. Social
Work, Social/Community Services Work; Psychology; Criminology) is required.ï
ï· Two (2) years of related experience working in the criminal justice sector as a group
facilitator delivering correctional or community justice programs is required.ï
ï· Knowledge of and training in current evidence-based treatment modalities related to anger
diffusion, impulse control and emotional regulation techniques is required.ï
ï· Multi-Ethnic/Multi-Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity, Diversity, and Inclusion is
required.ï
ï· Knowledge of community resources is required.ï
ï· Ability to work independently in a satellite program is required.ï
ï· Proven personal, organizational and writing skills is required.ï
ï· Ability to use Microsoft software is required.ï
ï· Current Non-Violent Crisis Prevention & Intervention Certificate is required.ï
ï· Valid First Aid/CPR is required.ï
ï· Mental Health First Aid and/or ASIST Training is preferred.ï
ï· Skilled to provide brief assessments to identify immediate client needs/barriers such as
literacy, learning disabilities, homelessness, addictions and mental health is an asset.ï
ï· Police check with vulnerable sector screening is required.ï
