This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who wants to contribute their expertise to a growing national organization working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, innovation, Black inclusion, and economic opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop job descriptions, interview processes, candidate screening tools, and selection procedures.
  • Coordinate interviews and support leadership with hiring decisions.
  • Build relationships with universities, professional networks, community organizations, and other talent pipelines.
  • Support efforts to attract diverse professionals with expertise in AI, technology, policy, research, communications, partnerships, and community engagement.

Onboarding and Team Experience

  • Develop a consistent onboarding process for new team members.
  • Coordinate orientation, role expectations, organizational policies, and required documentation.
  • Ensure team members understand AINBI’s mission, priorities, structure, and expectations.
  • Support employee and volunteer engagement, recognition, retention, and professional development.

  • Support managers in establishing clear expectations, goals, and accountability.
  • Help address team concerns, workplace challenges, and conflict in a fair and professional manner.
  • Conduct periodic check-ins or engagement assessments to identify opportunities to strengthen the team experience.

HR Policies and Compliance

  • Support the development and review of HR policies, including recruitment, onboarding, confidentiality, code of conduct, workplace conduct, equity and inclusion, performance, and volunteer management.
  • Help ensure organizational practices align with applicable Canadian employment and human rights requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional standards when managing sensitive HR information.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience in human resources, people operations, organizational development, talent management, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee or volunteer engagement, and HR policy development.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive and equitable workplace practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a growing organization.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Experience working with nonprofits, startups, technology organizations, community organizations, or volunteer-led organizations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian employment standards and human rights frameworks is an asset.
  • CHRP, CHRL, CPHR, or another HR designation is an asset but not required.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who is also comfortable building systems from the ground up. They understand that strong organizations require not only talented people, but clear structures, healthy workplace cultures, effective leadership, and strong systems of accountability.
