ADVISOR BOARD MEMBER — VOLUNTEER

Organization: Right to Live Canada

Location: Remote (United States, Canada or Europe)

Time Commitment: A required biweekly two-hour Advisor Board meeting. Attendance is non-negotiable. Beyond that meeting, advisors independently review materials, conduct research, and provide guidance as needed. Duration negotiable, four month minimum.

This is a remote volunteer opportunity with Right to Live Canada, a virtual-office based Canadian non-profit start-up.

------ THE MISSION

Right to Live Canada exists to realize the right to live as a practical, supported, executable choice.

We were founded in response to systemic poverty-driven euthanasia amongst Canadians with disabilities: cases where Canadians choose MAiD because they cannot access the essentials required to continue living. This is a specific form of economic euthanasia: euthanasia where a preferable living future existed, but was not achieved.

That crisis remains our founding application point. It is not the boundary of our work.

Right to Live Canada is building Continuity: the service, financial, technological, and institutional architecture required to keep life connected to preferable living futures. We work from the recognition that biological escape velocity may become achievable for a significant portion of people alive today, and that the right to live must now be pursued with the seriousness, urgency, and scale appropriate to that possibility.

Our four core areas are:

• Continuity Service — developing a service to identify, propose, finance and execute preferable living futures in the event of potential death
• Continuity Insurance — developing a finance model for Continuity Service in the event of potential death scenarios
• Social Brokerage — developing a system to productize and sell the anonymized outcome of a life supported to the global market as an impact product in exchange for the capital to accomplish it, in order to fund those who cannot afford Continuity Service or Insurance
• Corporate Farming — developing a global-scale system to take concepts, form a structure around them starting with a team, incubate them internally and nurture their growth towards incorporation, and then emitting them as formed non-profits dedicated to their founding concept such as a technology, project, infrastructure or issue.

------ ROLE DESCRIPTION

This is a volunteer and remote role for an Advisor Board Member with Right to Live Canada.

The Advisor Board Member will learn Right to Live Canada’s top-level corporate information—including plans, operations, priorities, and future goals—and provide independent strategic guidance to the CEO.

This role is central to strengthening Right to Live Canada’s strategic judgment as we build the organization’s programs, operations, funding pathways, and long-term capacity.

The advisory process is designed to give members a clear view of the corporation’s current work, decisions, and development needs.

Orientation materials will be provided on Right to Live Canada’s corporate structure, mission, current plans, operating model, priority projects, strategy materials, and internal coordination tools.

A background in board service, executive leadership, strategic planning, business development, fundraising, finance, governance, policy, operations, or a closely related function is required.

Responsibilities include:

• Learning and maintaining a working understanding of Right to Live Canada’s plans, operations, priorities, future goals, and strategic context.
• Attending the biweekly two-hour Advisor Board meeting. Attendance is non-negotiable; this is the role’s only required meeting.
• Advising the CEO on corporate strategy, priorities, decisions, risks, opportunities, and organizational growth.
• Researching and providing practical guidance on the corporation’s current goals and growth needs.
• Providing additional strategic guidance across current priorities, including Continuity Service, Continuity Insurance, Social Brokerage, Corporate Farming, OpenABLS, sponsorship sales, and executive- or board-level fundraising.
• Identifying material gaps, dependencies, risks, and opportunities, and helping the CEO make well-grounded decisions.

This is a high-judgment role suited to someone who can absorb complex information, think independently, and provide grounded, constructive advice in a remote startup environment.

Right to Live Canada is building a culture of highly dedicated volunteers.

The Advisor Board Member will help the CEO maintain top-level perspective across Right to Live Canada’s programs, operations, funding strategy, and future development. Advisors are expected to arrive informed, engage seriously, and provide candid, useful guidance.

------ QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Board, executive, strategic advisory, business development, fundraising, governance, operations, finance, policy, or related experience.
• Experience analyzing complex organizational, strategic, financial, operational, or program-level questions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong research, organization, and time-management skills.
• Comfort working remotely with a high degree of judgment, ownership, discretion, and follow-through.
• Familiarity with Google Workspace, shared documents, Slack, and remote collaboration tools.
• Ability to review a broad range of corporate information and turn it into clear, practical guidance.
• Professional judgment, discretion, and reliability when handling sensitive organizational information.

Preferred

• Experience serving on a board, advisory board, executive team, or founding team.
• Experience with non-profit governance, organizational growth, or early-stage organization building.
• Experience with sponsorship sales, corporate partnerships, major gifts, or executive-level fundraising.
• Experience in one or more current RTL priority areas: Continuity Service, Continuity Insurance, Social Brokerage, Corporate Farming, or OpenABLS.
• Experience working in a remote non-profit, startup, or mission-driven organization.
• Interest in helping build durable, large-scale continuity infrastructure.

------ TIME COMMITMENT

The only required meeting is a biweekly two-hour Advisor Board meeting, and attendance is non-negotiable. Outside that meeting, advisors independently learn the relevant corporate material, conduct research, and provide guidance on strategy, goals, and growth. Right to Live Canada is an early-stage, founder-led organization pursuing rapid national and global expansion. The role is best suited to someone who is comfortable with high responsibility and serious dedication to the mission.
