We're currently seeking a qualified ADDICTIONS COUNSELLOR to support individuals and families on their journey to healing and recovery.

ADDICTIONS COUNSELLOR

If so, join the team at Chabad Lifeline, a non-sectarian organization dedicated to assisting individuals and families affected by addiction. At Chabad Lifeline, those struggling with substance and behavioural addictions, along with their loved ones, are supported by experienced and compassionate professionals throughout their healing journey.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Addiction Counsellor provides mental health and addiction counselling to individuals (youth and adults) and families. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-on-one and group counselling, as appropriate
  • Developing and adjusting individualised treatment plans based on clinical assessments, patient history, and progress
  • Mediating and advocating for clients in crises

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $57,000 – $70,000 (commensurate with experience); includes a private medical insurance package

RESPONSIBILITIES: The counsellor will offer psychosocial counselling, support, and education related to addiction and recovery:

  • Conduct intake assessments, identify client needs, develop treatment plans, maintain progress notes, and create discharge and aftercare plans;
  • Refer clients and families to appropriate in-house or community-based services;
  • Maintain contact and collaborate with schools, hospitals, community organizations, and the 12-step community;
  • Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions;
  • Uphold strict confidentiality standards regarding all client interactions and records;
  • Document all client encounters using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in a timely manner;
  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSW (with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience and certification/diploma) or an MSW/MA in a related field;
  • Strong clinical and organisational experience;
  • Creativity, flexibility, self-direction, and initiative;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong critical thinking and multitasking abilities;
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and standard office software (Word, Excel, etc.).
