Compensation: From $34.52 per hour to $40.97 per hour (according to experience), plus pro-rated benefits and pension entitlement.
Regular Work Hours: 7.25 hours per day, not including lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, 3 days per week between Monday to Friday (21.75 work hours per week). Flexibility to work additional hours will be required during peak periods.
Work Location: Hybrid - combination of 1 day remote-based and 2 days onsite at the client's Etobicoke office, with free parking provided.

Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Accounting Specialist to join a finance team supporting a mission-focused organization. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring funds such as grants, donations, contracts, and other revenues are tracked and reported appropriately.
Working closely with the Finance Manager, the Accounting Specialist will support day-to-day accounting functions, ensure compliance with GAAP, and help maintain clear and reliable financial information for reporting and audit purposes.
Responsibilities Summary:
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain supporting documentation within the general ledger.
- Review financial transactions and account activity to ensure accuracy and adherence to internal controls and accounting standards.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies or variances as needed.
- Review payroll-related entries to confirm correct account and departmental allocations before posting.
- Analyze financial information and assist with preparing schedules and reports to support budget reviews and financial reporting.
- Manage banking activity including preparing deposits, recording electronic transactions, and completing monthly bank reconciliations.
- Administer corporate credit cards, including collecting receipts, reconciling statements, and allocating expenses to the appropriate accounts.
- Manage the accounts payable process, including reviewing and processing vendor invoices, maintaining vendor records, and coordinating payments. Respond to vendor inquiries and ensure invoices are properly approved and recorded.
- Oversee accounts receivable activities including preparing invoices, recording receivable transactions, and following up on outstanding balances.
- Maintain organized financial documentation to support internal reviews and external audits.
- Support improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls where appropriate.
Qualifications:
Education: Post-Secondary education in Accounting or Finance.
Preferred Work Experience: Approximately 5+ years of experience of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit or similar environment.
Preferred Sector Experience: Canadian Not-for-Profit sector accounting experience preferred.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel (will be tested).
- Strong proficiency in SAGE 300 (may be tested).
- Strong English communication skills, including advanced level business writing skills and verbal presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences including senior leadership.

- Solid understanding of Canadian Not-for-Profit Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (will be tested).
- Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Good organizational and time management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
- Superior attention to detail, and organized, methodical approach to completion of tasks.
- Demonstrated successful experience of prioritizing work, making decisions and communicating with others within a values framework of respect, equity, anti-racism, diversity and inclusivity.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
- Ability to work a permanent part-time shift of 3 days per week, with occasional flexibility during peak periods.
- Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
- Ability to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector security check, prior to start. Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security checks upon confirmation of position start and submission of approved expense receipts.
