About the Role

We are seeking a mission-driven and experienced Accounting Manager / Controller with deep expertise in the not-for-profit sector to join our Senior Management Team.

This individual will lead and manage financial operations for:
- Our internal corporate group (Secretariat Central & All About Words), and
- A portfolio of 30+ not-for-profit clients, including charities, foundations, and associations.

You will play a vital role in building financial sustainability and ensuring regulatory compliance, while contributing to the long-term success of nonprofit organizations across Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Corporate (4 entities):
- Strategic financial planning, budgeting, and risk management
- Payroll, benefits administration, accounts receivable/payable
- Internal controls, cash flow management, CRA compliance
- Supervision and mentorship of a 3-person finance team
- Liaison with external public accountant for year-end financials

Not-for-Profit Client Support (30+ clients):
- Full-cycle accounting and monthly/year-end reporting
- Grant budgeting, donor reporting, and fund accounting
- CRA filings including T3010, GST/HST compliance
- Audit coordination with client-appointed auditors
- Set-up of new client banking and reporting infrastructure
- Manage client insurance renewals and investment options
- HR/payroll support for select nonprofit clients

Required Qualifications

- CPA designation (or in progress) or equivalent recognized finance qualification
- Minimum 5 years of financial leadership, including 2+ years in the not-for-profit sector
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and cloud-based tools
- Deep understanding of not-for-profit financial compliance, funder reporting, and restricted/unrestricted fund management
- Strategic thinker and effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
