About The Role

We are seeking an organized, adaptable, and detail orientated Accounting Clerk. In this essential role for Cavalluzzo LLP, you will report to the Manager of Accounting to provide top-tier accounting support for the efficient operations of the Firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily bank deposits for general and trust accounts.
  • Prepare general and trust cheques, as required.
  • Distribute petty cash when required.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, referring discrepancies to the Accounting Manager.
  • Examine and code invoices for proper accounting distribution.
  • Process accounts payable payments and maintain vendor information.
  • Process billing statements and final billings on a monthly basis.
  • Professional and timely collection of any outstanding accounts receivable.
  • Post client disbursements.
  • Post registers or subsidiary ledger for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and all trust entries.
  • Resolve discrepancies in accounting records.
  • Prepare month-end reports and maintain monthly accounting records.
  • Compile recurring and ad-hoc reports for Partners’ and lawyers’ month-end.
  • Reply to general accounting inquiries with accurate information or re-routing to correct department staff.
  • Maintain closed file system.
  • Manage accounting files stored onsite and offsite.
  • Assist with special projects and/or perform related administrative, clerical, and other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

  • Knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting principles gained through education, training, or related experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate records, and handle bookkeeping tasks effectively.
  • Robust technical skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship management.
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated high level of integrity.
  • Ability to manage sensitive or confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Commitment to social justice and participating in a diverse, honest, respectful, and mutually supportive workplace culture.

Additional Assets

  • Hold a degree or diploma in accounting, bookkeeping, or related field.
  • Prior experience with Acumin.
  • Experience at law firm and/or in professional services organization.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.

Accessibility and Work Environment

The physical demands of this position may require the incumbent to spend extended periods of time sitting, walking, bending, and use keyboards, including working at a computer monitor and operating office equipment such as photocopiers and printers. Occasionally, the role may involve lifting boxes weighing up to 15 lbs.

Our office is in a three-floor heritage building with elevator access and automated doors. Our workplace has gender-neutral washrooms on all three floors, and ergonomic options available. The building includes fluorescent lighting and ambient noise from neighbouring offices due to the age of the building. We strive to maintain a scent-free and nut-free environment.

Salary Range: $52,422 - $56,149 based on 35 hours a week.

Unit: Bargaining

Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package, personal/paid-sick days entitlements, and three weeks vacation per year.

Location: 474 Bathurst Street, Toronto, ON.

Term: One-year contract with the potential to transition into a permanent role.
