Position Overview
The Accounting and Finance Specialist plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial health, operational efficiency, and administrative effectiveness of the organisation. This position oversees financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance, while also managing administrative functions that support the management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Develop, manage, and monitor the annual organisational budget.
- Prepare budgets for specific events, projects, and grant-funded activities.
- Support leadership in setting appropriate pricing structures for childcare services.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Generate and issue invoices for clients, ensuring timely and accurate billing.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and the Board.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, non-profit regulations, and funder requirements.
- Liaise with external auditors, banks, and funding agencies as required.
Operations, Leadership & Collaboration
- Develop and maintain internal policies, procedures, and systems to strengthen organisational efficiency.
- Support event and program planning from a financial and administrative perspective.
- Ensure effective records management and confidentiality of client and organisational information.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the management on financial matters.
- Work closely with program managers to align budgets with program goals and resources.
- Contribute to organisational planning, strategy, and sustainability initiatives.
- Supervise and support finance and administrative staff (if applicable).
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Some experience in financial management, preferably in the non-profit or service industry.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and accounting principles.
- Experience with non-profit funding models, grants, and compliance requirements an asset, not required.
- Proficiency in accounting software MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- High degree of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
