
Accountant & Operational Support
This is a full-time position (35 hrs per week) based in Ottawa and accountable to the General Secretary-Treasurer of Canadian Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. The accountant is responsible for maintaining CYM’s financial records and providing operational support for legal requirements.
Canadian Yearly Meeting (CYM) of the Religious Society of Friends is the formal name of the main organization of Quakers in Canada. Quakers are a faith group. CYM is made up of different meetings, groups, and committees. Quakers within the worship community do most of our work with CYM’s paid staff support.
The work includes:
- Performing the day-to-day tasks required with respect to CYM’s finances, including employee payroll, processing expenses, payments and deposits, monthly bank reconciliations, and maintaining CYM’s books
- Preparing financial reports and submitting of all government reporting requirements
- Coordinating the annual audit
- Providing operational support for legal compliance, such as insurance renewals.
- Collaborating with a broad array of volunteers, CYM staff, contractors, and service providers.
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 5 years of experience with organizational bookkeeping and financial management, including creating and managing budgets and managing financial reports.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; CPA designation is an asset
- Good familiarity and experience with QuickBooks online software (familiarity with Dayforce, Plooto, CRA accounts is also an asset)
- Strong knowledge of accounting requirements and practices for charitable and non-profit organizations (including tax receipting and CRA compliance)
- Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as have proficiency in other software applications (including Microsoft Suite, Google Suite).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional organizational abilities and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines, multi-task and prioritize workload.

Location: Ottawa, but we are willing to explore remote work within Ottawa and occasional travel
Hours: 35 hours per week. While some availability during regular Eastern Time work hours will be necessary to collaborate with colleagues, some weekend and/or evening work may be required to collaborate with volunteers; work hours for this role are flexible.
Compensation: $59,921 to $70,495, depending on level of experience at time of hire. CYM offers health benefits and RRSP contributions.
