Help Build a Canada Without Homelessness

At the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH), we believe homelessness is solvable. We work alongside communities, governments, frontline organizations, and people with lived expertise to help build housing-focused systems that measurably reduce homelessness across Canada.

CAEH is evolving. We are a modern social impact organization that combines systems change, advisory services, data, policy, learning, coaching, and innovation to create lasting impact at scale.

We are looking for people who are:

  • Outcomes-focused
  • Collaborative and adaptable
  • Energized by meaningful work
  • Comfortable navigating complexity and change
  • Curious, thoughtful, and action-oriented
  • Motivated by building better systems and stronger communities

If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

In our newly created Full Time Accountant position, you will play an important role in helping CAEH strengthen communities, scale impact, and accelerate progress toward ending homelessness in Canada.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH), a registered charity and social enterprise. The role maintains accurate and timely financial records across all of CAEH’s revenue sources—including fee-for-service contracts, grants, and donations—supports the full accounting cycle through to month- and year-end close, and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards (ASNPO), CRA charity requirements, and indirect tax obligations (GST/HST, QST, and provincial sales taxes). The Accountant provides the reliable financial information leadership needs to steward resources responsibly and advance CAEH’s mission to end homelessness in Canada.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys meaningful work, strong collaboration, and solving complex challenges in a fast-moving environment. You will have the opportunity to influence projects, improve systems, contribute to organizational growth, and help shape the future of CAEH as we continue to evolve.

What You’ll Do

In This Role, You Will:

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including coding, approvals, and timely payment and collection across all revenue sources (e.g. fee-for-service contracts, grants, events, and donations).
  • Support the month-end and year-end close, assist preparing working papers and schedules for management and external audit.
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and earned-revenue contracts using fund accounting principles.
  • Prepare and file indirect tax returns and remittances (GST/HST, QST, PST) and maintain supporting documentation across CAEH’s revenue streams.
  • Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll, including related remittances and reconciliations, in coordination with the People & Operations team.
  • Assist with accurate, timely financial reports and variance analyses to support budgeting, forecasting, and program and project decision-making.
  • Maintain and strengthen financial controls, processes, and documentation, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and issue customer invoices, and support fee-for-service contract administration, including revenue recognition and tracking against signed agreements.
  • Maintain project and program-level cost tracking to support margin and profitability analysis across fee-for-service offerings, in partnership with the Director of Finance.
  • Partner with the Business Development Lead, Director of Philanthropy, Community Impact Lead, and/or Contract Analyst on contract terms, invoicing schedules, and revenue recognition to ensure accounting treatment matches signed agreements.
  • Respond to internal and external information requests, including funder, and CRA inquiries, in a professional and timely manner.
  • Perform other related accounting duties as required.

You’ll Also:

  • Collaborate across teams to move strategic priorities forward
  • Use data, evidence, and feedback to guide decision-making
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across projects, systems, and service delivery
  • Support work that balances mission impact and organizational sustainability
  • Help foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team culture
