Be that person in a kid's corner.

In Metro Vancouver, 1 in 3 children have no trusted adult to turn to. That's where you come in. As a Big Sister mentor, you'll be matched one-on-one with a girl or gender-diverse youth (ages 7-17), showing up weekly and building the kind of relationship that shapes a life in your area.

"You go in thinking you'll be the guide, but you end up learning just as much about yourself. Patience, growth, becoming the best version of you." - Big Sister Lauren.

What you'll gain:

  • Communication, leadership & empathy skills that carry into every part of your life.
  • Confidence in navigating real conversations, even the hard ones.
  • A deeper sense of purpose and connection.
  • Experience working with youth, valuable whetheryou'rein education, social work, healthcare, or any people-focused field.
  • A dedicated caseworker by your side from start to finish, checking in at key moments.
  • A community of fellow mentors, events & workshops to keep you growing.

Commitment:

  • 2 - 4 hours, once a week.
  • Minimum 1 year.
  • Activities chosen by you and your mentee.

Eligibility:

  • Be 19 years or older and identify as a woman, non-binary, transgender, or gender-diverse individual.
  • Complete a free online Criminal Records Check.
  • Have been a Canadian resident for at least one year (or provide an International Criminal Records Check).
  • Submit a Driver's Abstract if you plan to drive youth in your car.
  • Have an interest in building a positive relationship with youth aged 7-17.
