About us
Established in 1982, The Learning Place provides high quality education and programming to have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of learners.
For over 40 years, The Learning Place—formerly known as Skills for Employment, Life and Family—has been a cornerstone of adult education in the Peel Region.
We believe literacy is the foundation for building a stronger, more independent future. It empowers individuals to pursue meaningful employment, live with dignity, and reach their full potential. Our programs support a wide range of learners, including those with limited literacy skills, individuals with learning disabilities, and people facing challenges in securing or maintaining employment.
At The Learning Place, we are committed to helping every learner develop essential life and workplace skills through accessible, inclusive, and supportive literacy education.
Our Goals:
- To promote awareness of low literacy in the community, to seek community support and build organizational partners.
- To modernize and diversify curricula.
- To diversify our learner base and to expand the depth and breadth of our service offerings to our target audiences.

Empowering our community to achieve a better quality of life.
