About us

Founded in 1974, the Fondation Ressources pour les Enfants Diabétiques (FRED) is a Quebec-based charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of individuals and families affected by type 1 diabetes.

For more than 50 years, FRED has been creating opportunities for connection, education, support, and personal growth for children, youth, adults, and families living with type 1 diabetes. Through a wide range of programs and services, we help participants build confidence, strengthen self-management skills, reduce isolation, and foster meaningful relationships within a supportive community.

Our work includes year-round educational and community-based programming, family support initiatives, outreach activities, and Camp Carowanis, one of Canada's leading camps dedicated to children and youth living with type 1 diabetes. Together, these programs create safe and welcoming environments where participants can learn, grow, and thrive.

At FRED, we believe that no one should face type 1 diabetes alone. Guided by values of inclusion, empowerment, compassion, and community, we strive to ensure that individuals and families have access to the resources, experiences, and support networks they need at every stage of their journey.

As a growing organization, FRED continues to invest in innovative programs, strategic partnerships, and sustainable fundraising initiatives to expand its impact and strengthen support for the type 1 diabetes community across Quebec.
