About us
The Fields Institute is a center for mathematical research activity - a place where mathematicians from universities in Canada and abroad, from business, industry, and financial institutions, can come together to carry out research and address problems of mutual interest. The Fields Institute mission is to provide a supportive and stimulating environment for mathematics innovation and education, to promote mathematical activity in Canada, and to help expand the application of mathematics in modern society. The Fields Institute’s major sources of funding are the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the National Science Foundation, nine principal sponsoring universities (Carleton, McMaster, Ottawa, Queen’s, Ryerson, Toronto, Waterloo, Western, and York) and sixteen Affiliate Universities in Canada, the US and Europe.
