Dolphin Democracy

Dolphin Democracy imagines a world where oceans are recognized as homes, not resources, and where the intelligence of non-human species earns them a voice in the decisions that shape our shared planet. Dolphin Democracy is our name and our ambassador species — but our horizon extends to every intelligent mind we share this planet with: dolphins, whales, elephants, cephalopods. We start here. Our work rests on four pillars — Culture, Systems, Love, and Science — values-led frameworks through which we design technology, build community, and advance our shared understanding of the intelligent life we share this planet with.

Our purpose, as a nonprofit, is to advance education and research in the field of interspecies communication, with a focus on cetaceans and the marine environment. We are a Canadian nonprofit in formation, building a founding Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Council with expertise in marine biology, ocean law and policy, conservation finance, and governance. We ensure that the knowledge we generate remains a public good, openly accessible rather than privatized, and we partner with research institutions and technology developers — including DeepMelon Technologies (Gdańsk, Poland), which is developing the hardware and engineering behind our bioacoustic research.
