About us
The Alberta Law Foundation (“ALF” or the “Foundation”) was established in 1973 under Alberta’s Legal Profession Act. Its primary revenue source is interest earned on lawyers’ pooled trust accounts, which financial institutions pay to the Foundation.
Each year, the Foundation contributes a portion of that interest revenue to Legal Aid Alberta. It uses the remaining funds to support community-based organizations and justice-sector initiatives across Alberta. Its statutory objects include legal research and law reform, law libraries, public legal education and programs of a like nature.
