Working with governments, employers, labour organizations, Indigenous partners, educational institutions, and community organizations, CSTEC designs research-driven programs that strengthen Canada's workforce.
We are seeking a Research and Evaluation Analyst to support the ongoing development of GEAR, CSTEC's workforce assessment and career disposition framework. The successful candidate will work with survey and assessment data, helping transform raw information into meaningful insights that improve decision-making and participant outcomes.
Position Summary
Reporting to the research team, the Research and Evaluation Analyst will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, and summarizing assessment and survey data. This role requires someone who enjoys working with large datasets, identifying meaningful patterns, and communicating findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean, validate, and prepare assessment and survey datasets for analysis.
- Handle missing or inconsistent responses, standardize formats, remove duplicate records, and validate data exports.
- Structure raw data into analysis-ready datasets suitable for reporting and research.
- Analyze Likert-scale and other rated-response survey data.
- Produce descriptive statistics including frequencies, distributions, averages, percentages, and measures of variation.
- Identify trends, patterns, relationships, and common themes across participant groups.
- Prepare concise written summaries, tables, charts, and visualizations that communicate findings clearly.
- Develop dashboards and reports using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and other analytical tools.
- Ensure data confidentiality through appropriate anonymization and quality assurance procedures.
- Support the ongoing refinement and validation of the GEAR assessment framework.
- Collaborate with researchers and project staff on evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Data Analytics, Research Methods, Public Policy, Labour Studies, or another related discipline.
- Experience cleaning and preparing survey or assessment datasets.
- Experience working with Likert-scale or other rated-response data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and filtering.
- Ability to summarize statistical findings in clear, concise written language.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
- Understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and data anonymization practices.
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
- Experience working with labour market information, occupational classifications, or workforce datasets.
- Familiarity with O*NET, the National Occupational Classification (NOC), or similar occupational taxonomies.
- Understanding of survey design, psychometrics, or assessment development.
- Basic knowledge of scale reliability, scoring methodologies, or validation techniques.
- Experience using statistical software such as SPSS, R, Python, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Experience conducting applied research within education, workforce development, or the non-profit sector.
Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, conferences, or project activities.
