Do you have experience in overseeing and interpreting audit reports and statements, interpreting financial statements, and reviewing budgets? Do you have a passion for supporting Indigenous youth? We invite you to apply for the position of Board Treasurer on our Board of Directors!

Our PURPOSE: As a national Indigenous youth-led organization, we collaborate with communities to provide programs, grants and opportunities that are grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, and are designed to strengthen and amplify the voices of Indigenous youth.

What will the Board Treasurer do?

  • The Board Treasurer’s duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining appropriate financial books and records;
  • Overseeing the financial matters of the charity in line with best practices and per the organization’s governing documents and legal requirements;
  • Regularly reporting to the Board on key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health and ensure appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board;
  • Ensuring implementation, monitoring, and adherence to specific financial controls and systems;
  • Ensuring that proper accounts and records are kept, ensuring financial resources are spent and invested in line with the charity’s budget, policies, good governance, and legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Acting as a signatory for matters prescribed in the organization’s Corporate Authorization Policy;
  • Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organization;
  • Chairing the Audit & Finance committee and prepare agendas for meetings;
  • Reviewing the organization’s annual operating budget and present it to the Board for approval;
  • Managing the annual audit and facilitating a positive working relationship addressing any issues between management and the auditors; and
  • Annually meeting with the auditor independently and be available to the auditor if called upon.

What are the time commitments?

  • The Treasurer can expect a time commitment of 10 hours per month in Board and committee participation and fiscal oversight activities.
  • The Officers of the Corporation shall each hold office for a three (3)-year term from the date of appointment or until their successors are elected or appointed in their stead.

What are other requirement to be Board Treasurer?

  • Has demonstratable experience working with charities and not-for-profits and adhering to CRA and other government regulations;
  • Formal financial training or experience and a professional designation (i.e., CPA, CAFM, etc.) would be considered an asset; and
  • Familiarity with the financial needs and legal status of the organization.
