Unpaid Volunteer Position

Full job description

About Us

Grief can be one of life's most isolating experiences. At the Centre for Grief and Healing, we believe no one should have to navigate the loss of a loved one alone.

For more than 35 years, we've been providing compassionate peer grief support to individuals and families across Halton and Peel. Through peer support groups, one-to-one support, workshops, outreach, and memorial events, we help people connect with others who understand and find hope while navigating grief.

About the Event

For 29 years, Walk to Remember has brought our community together to honour, remember, and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have died. It is a meaningful day where individuals, families, friends, and neighbours come together to walk, run, or roll, share memories, and support one another.

As the Centre for Grief and Healing's largest annual fundraiser, Walk to Remember helps ensure our grief support services remain accessible to those who need them most. Every volunteer plays an important role in creating a welcoming, compassionate experience for participants while helping make this special day possible.

Position Summary

We're looking for compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to join us on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Whether you're welcoming participants, assisting with check-in, supporting activities, supporting participants along the walk route, or lending a hand behind the scenes, you'll help create a meaningful experience for everyone attending.

Event Details

Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Location: Lakeside Park, 2268 Lakeshore Rd W, Mississauga, ON

  • Check-In Volunteer
  • Welcome & Wayfinding Volunteer
  • Walk Route Marshal
  • Water Station Volunteer
  • Parking Attendant
  • Rover (Participant Support)
  • Floater (General Event Support)

What We're Looking For

We're looking for volunteers who are:

  • Friendly and welcoming
  • Volunteers should be comfortable working outdoors and may be required to stand or walk for extended periods, depending on the role
  • Compassionate and respectful
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Confident communicating with participants and fellow volunteers

No previous volunteer experience is required. We'll provide all the training and information you need before the event.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering at Walk to Remember is an opportunity to support individuals and families as they honour the people they love. Whether you're offering directions, greeting participants, or helping behind the scenes, your presence helps create a space where people feel welcomed, supported, and connected.

It's also a chance to meet new people, give back to your community, and be part of an event that has brought hope and connection to grieving families for nearly three decades.

Once we've received your application, a member of our team will contact you with the next steps and additional event information.

We look forward to welcoming you to our volunteer team!
