Volunteer Treasurer – Etobicoke Historical Society

Commitment: 4–6 hours per month
About Us
Founded in 1958, the Etobicoke Historical Society (EHS) is a registered charity dedicated to studying, sharing, and preserving the history and heritage of Etobicoke. Through public talks, heritage walks, publications, and community partnerships, we work to keep local stories alive for future generations.
Role Overview
The Treasurer plays an essential role in maintaining the financial health and transparency of the Society. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, values community heritage, and wants to make a meaningful contribution to a long-standing cultural organization. Applicant should live in or within close proximity to Etobicoke.
Key Responsibilities
- Pay invoices and manage outgoing payments
- Track income and expenses throughout the year
- Prepare donation receipts for supporters
- Complete the annual CRA charitable return
- Monitor the Society’s chequing account and GIC investments
- Assist with the annual Heritage Ontario Development Grant (HODG) application
- Prepare a brief year-end financial report for the AGM
- Maintain clear, organized records using spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets)
A smooth transition is available — our departing Treasurer will provide onboarding and support to help the new volunteer settle into the role.

- Basic familiarity with spreadsheets
- Attention to detail and comfort with financial tracking
- Reliability and a collaborative spirit
- Interest in local history or community heritage (an asset, not required)
