To better support older adults to be socially connected, remain active and maintain independence, HelpAge Canada coordinates, convenes, builds capacity and invests in community-based organizations in Canada and internationally. We advocate, inform policy and work in a collaborative manner to raise the profile of the Ageing agenda in Canada and around the world. We work with community-based organizations and programs as well as a robust ecosystem of networks and partners that provide supports to older persons to live independently in their homes and their communities and to improve their well-being through the provision of community informed and community-based programs and services.

Job Purpose

The Chief Impact Officer (CIO) reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is accountable for the programs, partnerships and overall engagement with system partners including government, allies and civil society. This role ensures deliverables of contracts are adhered to and ensures monitoring, learning and evaluation frameworks are implemented. The CIO is part of the Executive Leadership Team and will inform organizational strategy and work collaboratively with other executive leaders of the organization. The CIO will provide input to the development and implementation of operational workplans across different departments; this role will support communications and fundraising tasks as required and will also provide supervision and support to program staff. At HelpAge Canada, we embrace a servant leadership approach to coaching, development and empowerment.

The CIO will provide leadership in organizational development, ensuring that the program development cycle, grant management processes, capacity building tools and systems necessary to support HelpAge Canada as a growing national and international organization are in place. This will involve working across functional areas towards a common vision and towards common outcomes. A key part of this role will be stakeholder management and working with the CEO, drive the organization’s community impact strategy; this role will ensure alignment of programs with the organization’s strategic plan. This position is the face of external events and public engagements and may be required to travel across Canada and internationally.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As part of the HelpAge Canada leadership team, undertakes strategic and operational planning for HelpAge Canada.
  • Oversees all domestic and international programs and initiatives
  • Responsible for partnership and stakeholder engagement strategy
  • Accountable for ensuring that all programs meet contractual obligations and support staff in the development of reports to funders
  • Ensures excellence in program delivery adhering to the principles of excellence, meritocracy and knowledge sharing
  • Leads knowledge mobilization activities, including conference participation, in partnership with the CEO and COO
  • Works closely with the HelpAge Canada leadership team to set fundraising targets and priorities.
  • Responsible for the grant management and program development cycle for all initiatives
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies, systems and monitoring, learning and evaluation frameworks
  • Leads the planning and convenes events and external engagements
  • Supports the thought leadership and media relations strategy of the organization, in partnership with the CEO and Communications team
  • Models servant and developmental leadership amongst direct reports
  • Represents the CEO and acts as the organization spokesperson on behalf of CEO as required
  • Other duties as negotiated between the CEO and CIO

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary of $100,000–$110,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications

  • 15 days of paid vacation upon hire, in addition to a paid one-week office closure between Christmas and New Year's
