Job Summary

St. Mary’s Home is seeking passionate and community-driven individuals to join our Board of Directors in Ottawa. This is a meaningful opportunity to help shape the future of a unique organization that supports young pregnant individuals, young parents, and their children. We are currently recruiting three Ottawa-based board members, with particular interest in candidates who bring experience in land development or real estate, nonprofit governance, and fundraising.

Why join Saint Mary’s Home?

By serving on our board, you’ll contribute your expertise to a mission-driven organization that has been a cornerstone of support in our community for over 90 years. You will have the chance to make an immense impact on the 350+ families who depend on St. Mary’s Home annually! We’re looking for people from all walks of life who are ready to share their time, skills, and heart.

Responsibilities

Board members provide governance oversight, help shape strategic priorities, and support the long-term sustainability of St. Mary’s Home. Board members attend six meetings per year and commit approximately five hours per month, with additional opportunities for committee involvement depending on interest and expertise. Board members are expected to uphold strong standards of accountability, confidentiality, and ethical leadership while advancing the mission and values of the organization.

Skills and Knowledge
We are especially interested in individuals with experience in:

  • Non-profit governance
  • Fundraising & philanthropy
  • Finance/accounting
  • Legal expertise
  • Strategic planning
  • Health care, education, or social services
  • Strategic thinking
  • Understanding of land development and property consideration
  • Secretarial experience

Prior board experience is welcome but not required for candidates who can bring relevant expertise, professional insight, and a genuine interest in contributing to the success of St. Mary’s Home.

Schedule

  • Meetings bimonthly (6 times a year)
  • Additional opportunities for committee involvement, approximately 5 hours a month

If you’re ready to contribute to a cause that empowers young families and strengthens our community, we’d love to hear from you!
