Our&nbsp;Mentoring with Math Program&nbsp;is designed to strengthen the impact of tutoring by adding in the element of mentorship. Volunteers meet once-a-week for 90 minute sessions during afternoons over a 10 week period, and work on numeracy, activities, and games. No previous experience with math is necessary for volunteers and all training is provided by Big Brothers. This program is offered virtually and in-person in Greater Vancouver. Our Math Mentors are<ul><li>Adults aged 18+, inclusive of male, female, trans, and gender diverse individuals.</li><li>Reliable, consistent, dedicated and respectful of others.</li><li>Available to meet once weekly during weekday afternoons between 4:00pm and 5:30pm for 90-minutes for in-person sessions, or 60 minutes for virtual sessions.</li></ul>Our Mentoring with Math volunteers are asked to enroll in two 8-10 week terms as it's the best way to experience this fun program. Our&nbsp;In-School Mentoring Program&nbsp;pairs you with one elementary school student who you share common interests with. Matches spend one-hour once per week together on school grounds doing non-academic activities such as playing sports, games, creating art or just hanging out at the playground. Our matches are paired for the duration, or remainder, of the academic school-year. Deadline to apply to volunteer in this program for the 2025-26 school year is Feb 1, 2026. Become a Volunteer Pet Therapy Team:Share your pet's unconditional love and affection by bringing therapy pet volunteering to people who could use a furry pick me up. Here at Pets and Friends we screen, support, and provide a network so you can make an impact.Description of Role:The organization’s mission is to provide and promote the healing comfort and companionship of animals through pet therapy visitations and it is our volunteer pet therapy teams who put this mission into action.&nbsp;Purpose:&nbsp;We are looking for individuals who would like to volunteer in their community with their pet (dog, cat or rabbit).&nbsp;Responsibilities:<ul><li>Adhere to and follow the policies and procedures set out by Pets and Friends</li><li>Annually renew your membership&nbsp;</li><li>Maintain and submit updated pet vaccinations while volunteering</li><li>Utilize Pets and Friends online CRM to record your pet therapy visitations and update any changes to personal information</li><li>Report any incidents, accidents or problems/concerns to the Pet Therapy Volunteer Coordinator</li><li>Let Pets and Friends know if your visitations stop</li><li>Represent Pets and Friends well by being professional, reliable and friendly</li><li>Maintain confidentiality at all times</li><li>Monitor your pet for signals of stress and act accordingly</li></ul>Eligibility&nbsp;Handlers must own their own pet to participate in this role.Handler Requirements<ul><li>Sixteen (16) years’ old or older</li><li>Commit to a regular volunteer monthly visiting schedule for a minimum of one (1) year</li><li>Submit to a criminal records check with vulnerable sector through Pets and Friends&nbsp;<ul><li>You&nbsp;must have a BC Services Card</li></ul></li><li>Attend a pet screening to evaluate your pet’s suitability for visitations</li><li>Attend a human-only orientation to learn&nbsp; more about Pets and Friends, our policies and procedures, and the pet therapy program itself</li><li>Be willing to pay an annual membership fee of $40.00</li><li>Be willing to wear the official uniform on all pet therapy visits (handler vest, pet bandana, and ID Badges)</li><li>Reside in the Lower Mainland of BC</li></ul>Pet Requirements<ul><li>One (1) year of age or older</li><li>Must be a dog, cat, or rabbit</li><li>Owned by, and have lived with, their handler for a minimum of three (3) months before filling out an application</li><li>Provide current vaccination certificates for all required vaccinations and maintain up-to-date vaccinations while volunteering</li><li>Receive annual veterinary health checks</li><li>Respond to basic cues (i.e.: sit, down, walk on a loose leash)</li><li>Be clean, healthy and well groomed (odor free, nails clipped and filed, teeth brushed)</li><li>Be friendly, social and enjoy meeting new people.</li><li>Successfully complete the Pets and Friends pet screening.</li></ul>Limitations:&nbsp;<ul><li>Pet screenings and visitations will not be carried out if the dog is in season.</li><li>Pets that are aggressive or have a history of aggression, jump on people, growl at other dogs or are not housetrained are not eligible to participate.</li></ul>Training: 2x hour general orientation is provided for all handlers.Time Commitment: Pets and Friends requires a minimum 12-month commitment of 1 visit per month. Days and times are flexible. Our vision is to create a community without barriers for survivors of stroke.The North Shore Stroke Recovery Centre (NSSRC) is currently seeking 2 volunteer Board Members for a two-year renewable term:<ol><li>Board Secretary</li><li>Board Member with a focus in Human Resources</li></ol>Preference is given to applicants who live in or around the North Shore (North or West Vancouver, British Columbia) and those who have experience with non profits, particularly related to senior health.At the NSSRC, we envision a future without barriers for survivors of stroke. Since 1974, our team has worked on the organization’s mission to maximize the quality of life for people impacted by stroke through accessible programming, peer support and healthcare partnerships. We are the only community-based program that supports stroke recovery for North &amp; West Vancouver and Sea-to-Sky corridor residents, operating therapy and support programming.The NSSRC Board is responsible for strategic planning, financial oversight, risk management and overall governance of the organization. It is made up of community members committed to continuing the work and support provided by the Centre.&nbsp;Our Board Secretary position is responsible for:<ul><li>Monthly Board meeting preparation, including compiling meeting agendas and distributing them in advance</li><li>Recording of meeting minutes during the Board meetings</li><li>Maintaining organized and up-to-date records of official documents, bylaws, and other key governance materials</li><li>Annual meeting planning including the coordination of the NSSRC annual general meeting &amp; distribution of documents</li><li>Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to Board activities</li></ul>Our General Board Member with a focus in Human Resources would assist in:<ul><li>Advising the board on HR governance, staffing structures, and organizational capacity.</li><li>Supporting the review and development of HR policies, staff and volunteer handbooks, and related procedures.</li><li>Assisting in the recruitment of staff when needed.</li><li>Contributing to discussions on workplace culture, wellness, and retention strategies.</li><li>Helping ensure compliance with labour and employment legislation.</li><li>Serving as a member of the Governance Committee.</li><li>Representing the organization at relevant events, conferences and meetings to enhance its visibility and network with potential supporters.</li><li>Advocating for the organization's mission and initiatives within the community and with relevant stakeholders.</li></ul>A Board Member will typically spend 5-10 hours per month on the Board’s business, including attendance at monthly Board meetings (September through June). Board meetings are held monthly from September through June, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.
