Our core workshop, available through more than 80 cancer centres across Canada (and online) helps individuals safely manage the appearance-related effects of cancer and its treatment so they can feel more like themselves again.Powered by over 1,000 dedicated volunteers delivering compassionate care and expertise, we are a trusted voice in self-care, emotional well-being, and community connection.About the Role:We are currently recruiting passionate volunteers across Canada to lead the Wigs &amp; Hair Alternative portion of our in-person workshops for people facing cancer.For more than 30 years, these workshops have helped people manage the appearance-related effects of cancer treatment. Hair Alternative Specialists guide participants through choosing and caring for wigs, exploring scarf-tying techniques, hat options, and navigating hair loss and regrowth. Volunteers may also demonstrate with a model, showcasing different types and styles.These sessions provide more than practical advice — they create a rare opportunity for fun, confidence, and connection during a vulnerable time.Who we're looking for:We’re seeking professionals who are not only skilled in wigs and hair alternatives, but who also bring compassion, empathy, and clear, gentle communication to every session. Volunteers may join us with formal training or industry experience, or, if new to this area, by completing a training course to gain the necessary skills. Either way, you’ll be equipped to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people navigating cancer treatment. &nbsp;Requirements:<ul><li>Trained as a wig &amp; hair alternative specialist, experience working with wigs, or are eager to complete training to gain this specialization</li><li>Comfortable supporting individuals undergoing cancer treatment through both one-on-one and group facilitation</li><li>Confident demonstrating diverse wigs and scarves on a participant, using the Hair Alternatives Kit and a cap for hygienic purposes.</li><li>Brings a warm, empathetic and inclusive approach to create a welcoming, supportive environment for all</li><li>Committed to attending workshops regularly, collaborating with your local team, and supporting a cohesive and respectful volunteer experience.</li></ul>Time Commitment:Volunteers must be available once a month for 3 to 3.5 hours at a set day, date, and time. Wig & Hair Alternative Specialist

Are you passionate about history? Do you have 4 hours per week to spare? Then join our volunteer staff at the Vancouver Island Military Museum. The VIMM has been a volunteer-run organization since its beginning in 1986, dedicated to helping us preserve history and engage with the community. Currently, we are looking for Front of House volunteers to greet visitors, handle ticket sales, and guide the public around exhibits as needed. Every new volunteer will receive orientation and training. You do not need to be an expert in Military History. The Society for Children and Youth (SCY) of BC is a unique, provincial not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to improve the well-being of children and youth in BC through the advancement of their civic, political, economic, social, cultural, and legal rights. Since 1974, the Society has focused on providing a strong voice representing children and youth.The Society’s work focuses on four key priorities: child and youth rights, child and youth friendly communities, social justice, and organizational resilience. We have four core organizational values that the Walking School Bus is built around:<ul><li>Relationships: We know we can’t do our best work alone.</li><li>Centering Children and Youth: Children and youth know best what they are experiencing and what their needs and interests are.</li><li>Being Compassionate: Treating one another with compassion is fundamental to creating a safe and comfortable environment.</li><li>Being Resourceful: To be resourceful, we must work to find creative solutions, push boundaries, define new roadmaps, and collaborate with community partners.</li></ul>Much like a traditional yellow school bus, a Walking School Bus (WSB) is a group of students who travel to and/or from school each day along a designated route, stopping along the way to pick up more students. The bus is supported by trained adult Walk Leaders, who walk with the group daily. The bus is powered not by an engine, but on foot, by the students themselves as they walk to and from school.As a volunteer, your job is to support your group’s Walk Leader. The Walk Leader manages logistics like attendance and family communications. Your role involves playing games along the walk, getting to know the participants, and making sure no one lags too far behind – you’re acting as another pair of eyes on the walk, and helping to foster community!Volunteer walking shifts are available every weekday before and after school and are typically 30 to 45 minutes in length.
